I know, I know. I have my doubts about that line, too.
I think the more sane people who are nervous about that is that....well, Orci and Kurtzman's writing isn't exactly the most impressive.
You guys have seen Transformers, right? Noble alien leader of the Autobots says, 'my bad'? Believable, right?
Their writing is very impressive.
Uhura: “I’m impressed, for a moment I thought you were just a dumb hick who only has sex with farm animals.” Kirk: “not only.”
I have not seen Transformers and have no plans to do so (though neither am I ruling it out.) There are at least a couple of generations who have grown up with Transformers toys and Transformers on TV, but those generations are not mine.I think the more sane people who are nervous about that is that....well, Orci and Kurtzman's writing isn't exactly the most impressive.

This guy is my new hero. I salute you, sir.I cannot for the life of me understand why people can judge a movie on the strength of a second and a half of dialogue seen out of sequence and context.
I'm sick of it actually - this forum is full of halfwits who seemingly only wish to agitate about something they've not seen.
The word 'man' has raped my childhood.
Yeah right - you fucking asked for it - watch it and then complain.
In fact, online complaints have led to the ADR replacement of Kirk's line in post.
The line will now be delivereded as "Why are you talking to me, Herbert?"
It was hoped that this substitution would satisfy the fans.
Unfortunately, in doing so the producers tripped over a bit of continuity in "The Way To Eden" where Spock has to explain the meaning of the word to Kirk.
Since the news of this naked assault on canon has leaked out, four new anti-Abrams petitions have been launched online: three calling for total excision of the scene and one demanding that Bruce Greenwood be digitally replaced by CG'd file footage of Heath Ledger's audition tape for "The Dark Knight."
Their writing is very impressive.
Don't have any issues with the line, but I wouldn't go that far.

I would, and did.

I agree on Transformers... but they also wrote Mission Impossible III, and I rather liked that one. Until this movie proves me wrong, I'm gonna chalk up Transformers to two words - Michael Bay.Yeah....I didn't think the writing in Transformers was very good... and that's a whole MOVIE'S worth of work to base my opinion on.
Not just one line.
They just make me nervous for their ability to write a satisfying script

As for the people who say...wait to watch the movie before complaining....
I offer this rejoinder....wait before you watch the movie before you're ready to start high-fiving everyone.
People who have objections to what's going on are not just idiots to look down on or pathetic myopic fools. Some of them are well-reasoned and logical.
Just as I'm sure you feel that defending this as yet unseen film to the death is well-reasoned and logical.
