A Certain Pixie from Ocampa

Why should Kes change radically when no one else among the main characters did change radically during those 7 years.
What the hell are you talking about?
What radical change, she's growing up from a girl to a woman.
How is character development a radical change?

As for Kes's powers, they could be used in a proper manner. Expanding them to what we had to see in "The Gift" and "Fury" was only ridiculous and used as a cheap way to get rid of the character in the first place and destroy her in the second.
Who determines what's a proper manner for the use of her powers? Would you still think the expanding of her powers was cheap if Kes had stayed instead?

Of course they could have used the fact that she had certain powers for stories about the character (which I actually have done in some of my stories) but not expanded them to something ridiculous.
Again, would you have found her expanded powers ridiculous if Kes stayed?

Well I brought up "Fury" here because of your constant defense for that episode. I assumed that your suggestions for expanding her powers would be leading to the events in "Fury". Maybe I was wrong there and then I apologize for my wrong conclusion.
Why would I beat around the bush?
If I wanted to talk about "Fury", I'd would have brought it up.
I suggest you simply listen to what's said instead of falsely assuming things that aren't being talked about.;)

Multiple people mentioned "Fury" before... including me. Because this thread was made "just to talk about Kes" I think it's a fair subject. There was no indication from the OP's first post that there was any particular direction for the thread. So since it's just about Kes..."Fury" is fair game.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Kes had been "radically changed" in that episode. Radically changed is a matter of opinion. I grew up from a girl to a woman without acting like a psychopath. They could have shown her having grown up in a different way. It was the last time any viewer was going to see Kes, so having her portrayed that way seems irrelevant. At that point, I personally do not think it was really necessary to bring her back just to do that. I don't think anyone is saying they didn't want to see character development. Character development is essential. But it didn't have to be in such a drastic or destructive way.

We're all very passionate about our opinions on anything - in this case, STAR TREK. More specifically, about Kes. It's hard to tell, what kind of tonality, or spin, we should give another poster's comments, all the time. But when talking about Kes, I don't feel anger, about her! What's not to LOVE? You know, I never knew anything about Jennifer Lien, really and that's certainly true, now. But in looking up pictures of this pretty pixie, I couldn't help but come across a few things. And I have to say, they couldn't have cast Kes better, as far as Lien's personality would go. Apparently, she's really, really sweet - in general and to the fans! It makes you wonder how that can happen, in Hollywood. Even as I was looking through old pictures of her, she never looks whorish, or very contrary at all, in fact, to the way her alter ego would present herself. I'd be curious to know how much of Kes is really Jennifer Lien ...

Yes, but usually don't you quote the post pertaining to that subject if you want to discuss it? I didn't, I quoted a post dealing with different Kes topic.
For example: If the was a thread about Janeway and 3 people mentioned they liked "Counterpoint" and I said "I think Janeway likes coffee", would you still assume I wanted to talk about "Counterpoint" or would you assume I want to discuss another aspect of the character and not the ep. mentioned?

Again, I'm not talking about "Fury".
I'm talking about ideas that could have given Kes better character development had she been given a more dramatic back story.

Now, that the heated debates have cooled, perhaps it is a good time to get back to "pedestal-izing" that adorable pixie: Kes. I defy any male viewer, who's new to VOYAGER, not to fall in love with her. The screen lights up, whenever she's on ...

So much of Jennifer Lien is in her performance as Kes. Note how in this publicity photo, as usual, she's not being trashy, or whorish, in any way. This woman's not only beautiful, but she's also got class ... respects herself. She has dignity and grace. That's Jennifer Lien. That's Kes. ...There's no delineation.

Angels fly ... and the angelic Jennifer Lien was the only actress with the luminous quality, the warmth and tenderness for the role.
