After rewatching the series recently (Like last year), there are a lot of good things going for it. For one, while the story itself left a lot to be desired, I really loved what Season 3 did to the overall character development of the show. What we saw from the crew was a lot different coming out of the expanse then when they first entered. Also, there are a lot of enjoyable episodes from the first two seasons (Vox Sola, Silent Enemy, Fallen Heroes, Two Days, Two Nights, The Catwalk, Carbon Creek, Judgment, and Cogenitor). Also, Enterprise gave us probably Star Trek's best trilogy, and repaired the Vulcans in said trilogy greatly.

I agree completely, the third season is my favorite strictly because of the character development, they grew so much through that year. It was the first time they were flat out on their own.

The NX-01 is my favorite starship. Big enough to do the job and a bridge that is NOT designed like a Broadway stage. Season 4 is my favorite of all Trek and season 3 was intense. I guess I like arcs since ENT is my second favorite series behind DS9.

I want seasons 5, 6 and 7 covering the Romulan war, T'Pau being half Romulan, and Sharan at the helm.

Don't worry, Star Trek will be back on TV again someday - cable, or one of the emerging streaming services like Netflix.

I wouldn't mind at all if someone took another crack at Birth of the Federation/22nd C again, this time don't frak it up. Without the burden of broadcast TV (and a failing channel like UPN, at that), maybe they'd be able to pull it off like it deserves.

If you enjoy the most generic looking people you can possibly find, maybe. I consider the cast to be rather bland and ugly. Didn't help that none of the actors had any on screen charisma.

But isn't that the problem with the show? They played everything incredibly safe. Painfully safe and dull.

I thought the cast had great chemistry and I really liked the way they looked, but I will admit they did play too safe during the first two seasons.

I think it was Berman's decision and not UPN's.

No, it was UPN's decision, just like every other boneheaded decision on that show (with the exception of TATV, which was Berman's and Braga's decision). Drexler stated this in his blog, and he has no reason to lie.

Nothing wrong with consuming background material as fan, a lot wrong with viewing everything concerning Trek from this perspective instead of the natural perspective of a guy who just watches the movies and episodes.

And I find "a lot wrong" with using a late 24th century ship to represent a mid-22nd century ship, no matter whether it was originally in the background or not. As a matter of fact it always galled me whenever Trek reused alien guest ships regardless of who they belonged to or what time period it was. It made Trek look cheap. But that can be forgiven because none of those instances were of the hero ship, until Enterprise.

As everyone knows, the NX was based on the Akira, in fact the Enterprise producers had decided that they were going to use the Akira as is for the NX Enterprise! Herman Zimerman, the Enterprise production designer talked them in to letting us come up with a version that was across between the TOS ship, and the Akira class.

I'm sure that's "Enterprise producers" in a general sense, as in "UPN produced the show." I have a very hard time accepting that Berman himself wanted the Akira class as the NX-01.

Enterprice producers is fairly unambiguous. Berman didn't like the original ideas centered around making the NX look similar to the NCC-1701 and it was the right choice.
A saucer-only ship was the proper step between mere rockets or rocket-like ships (Conestoga) and ships with a secondary hull (Daedalus, Constitution).
That it resembles a background ship which has only been noticed by some hardcore fan (I never saw the Akira in FC or DS9 so don't tell me you became aware of it directly and not via background material) is of no relevance.

Again you're missing my point. I'm not arguing that what the NX-01 eventually looked like on the screen was the problem. I'm arguing that UPN's (or whoever's) original idea to use the Akira class, unaltered, as a 22nd century warp 5 Earth ship was a ludicrous idea. Drexler agreed with that assessment, and made changes to the design to make it more primitive, while essentially keeping the design aesthetic the same (saucer with catamarans and nacelles between a pod). It would be relevant to every single obsessive Trek fan who knew of the ship (and even though it was just a background ship in FC, information about the Akira class was widely known through the Encyclopedia, the Fact Files, Star Trek The Magazine, and especially the internet, and the ship appeared prominently in both Deep Space Nine and Voyager). Whether you personally watched those shows or not, or read those reference materials or not, is of no relevance. And how the hell do you know what my Trek viewing habits were?

Of course it is of relevance whether you merely watch the shows or also consume background material, it is at the heart of the Akiraprise issue. I did the former and was not aware of the Akira whereas you did the latter and were aware of her.
About your point, this was indeed ludicrous and thankfully Zimmerman convinced Berman of not going down this road. While I appreciate Berman's work on Enterprise a lot I am not fond of his decisions in the art department. The guys there have had a lot of great ideas and deserved to have more of a free hand.
