3D interiors in Blender

@Rekkert How dead is the Stage 9 project? I only ask because my sister is an attorney that specializes in Digital IP. Do you know if Stage 9 had legal counsel during the negotiations with CBS? If not, or even if they wanted a second opinion, I may be able to get my sister to look into this matter for them and maybe even legally represent them Pro Bono if she thinks Stage 9 has legal standing to continue.

@Fred617: Haha, thanks, I'm glad you enjoy my work so much!

Regarding Stage 9, it's very dead. There is no possible legal battle here, it's CBS' IP, they can do whatever they want, those are the rules. The team moved on and are now developing The Orville - Interactive Fan Experience, as that IP has a more open-minded production company behind it.

@Jedman67: Thanks! :)

@valkyrie013: There is a list of all the shuttles, showing their icon and status, on the big wall mounted LCARS screen at the control room. As you can see there, there are more shuttles listed than those on the bay, though indeed not all are in a launchable status.

Here are all the finished renders of the bay! I did some slight modifications to Kuhn's Excelsior model in order to connect it with the shuttlebay in a somewhat proper way. Hope you like it!

Now THAT is a thing of beauty! You should definitely start working on complete ship designs - both interior and exterior. You have the gift!

I'm glad you all like the finished shuttlebay! Back when I did the original shape I wasn't sure it was gonna work or be well received, being such a weirdly arranged room, but I'm glad that apparently it did work haha.

Hahaha, believe if I ever win the lottery and don't have to worry about working ever again, that would be exactly what I would do. :p

Remember last week when I teased another big project I had been working on? Well, now I can finally share it publicly! As some of you might know, the crew behind the Star Trek Adventures campaign Shield of Tomorrow, which had been created in collaboration with CBS and Star Trek Online, are now working on another campaign called Clear Skies. This new campaign follows the crew of the USS Ross (named after Mary G. Ross), a prototype for a new class launched in 2381, exploring uncharted space in the Beta Quadrant.

While independent of CBS this time, they are still working with the fine folks over at STO. The Ross-Class starship is now a playable variant for the Galaxy-Class in said game, and was designed by Thomas Marrone, their lead ship designer. The ship features a warp capable saucer section, and is equipped for establishing diplomatic relationships first and foremost.

If a tabletop RPG campaign is something you're interested in watching/hearing, you can check out Clear Skies over at YouTube; personally it's been great to hear it while working, a great way to lighten up my day. :)

Anyway, all of this to say that I've been working with them in designing/building the interiors for the USS Ross, the bridge being obviously the first order of business. While the original brief was to modify the existing USS Frontier bridge (and in fact in the first episodes of the show the bridge is described as the Frontier's), I was given a wide latitude in this job, and thus went for an entirely new bridge "shell", inspired by the Enterprise-E aesthetic, as that would be more fitting for a ship launched in the 2380's.

The columns, alcoves and viewscreen were reused from my Cerberus bridge design, while the chairs and horseshoe were indeed reused from the Frontier. The conn/science consoles (yes, ops is swapped with science here) and the XO/specialist consoles are brand new though, and inspired by designs from Star Trek Online, as a little nod to the fact that this is a bit newer than the Enterprise-E, and closer to the Starfleet aesthetic we see in the game.

As stated before, this is a long term project, and I'll (hopefully) be working on a lot more Ross interiors; though unfortunately I won't be able to share any in-progress shot of them. The next interior we'll be working on will be sickbay, though there's still no time-frame for it, as we haven't discussed details about it yet.

I wouldn't have thought that the Galaxy and Sovereign bridges were especially compatible in style, but this certainly proves otherwise. It looks great. :techman:

Excellent work as always. I especially like how you continued the horseshoe all the way around the back side of the Command Chairs. I would have liked to see the guest seating beside the XO and Counselor/2nd Officer seat. That might have made things a little cramped though. looking forward to your next post.

Thanks for sharing!

@SCE2Aux: I've always wanted to mix in the two. I love the Sovereign-Class aesthetic but I feel like the Ent-E bridge itself lacked cohesion as it was made on the cheap (relatively) reusing a lot of stuff. Both this bridge and the Cerberus are attempts to use that aesthetic beyond those simple reuses. :)

@The Primeval: Thanks! Haha, I doubt that'll ever happen, but it would be nice indeed to see a design of mine on official media, even if it is just a reproduction done by someone else.

@Fred617: Thanks! Yeah, I'm not a big fan of guest seats myself, and indeed they wouldn't really fit in with the new XO/Specialist consoles added in. :)

@Professor Moriarty: Hahaha, thanks! Totally forgiven. :p

Another update based on the Ross: a 360º "tour" of the bridge with several available cameras is now online at http://carolx.me/w/uss-ross-360/
This wasn't originally planned, but rather came about after the bridge was announced. A Clear Skies fan called Carol Rozendo contacted me with the idea of creating this little website, as she had experience coding similar online showcases. I rendered the 360ª images and send them her way the other week, and now the site is online! It's certainly a different way of seeing the bridge, it reminds me a lot of the old Captain's Chair game. Hope you like it! :)

I couldn't agree more about the lack of cohesion on the Enterprise-E bridge design. As much as I liked individual details of it, I couldn't get a sense of its overall shape easily. Too many randomly placed steps, consoles, lights etc.

@SCE2Aux: Yep, totally. Someday, I'll be able to do a "USS Sovereign bridge" and make my own version of that set. Someday...

@valkyrie013: Ohh, that sounds very cool! :)

@batboy853: Indeed it is, if I'm allowed to say so myself haha.

@DanGovier: Hi man, thanks, it's so cool to see you back here working on Trek stuff! :)

Another small commission today, this one from a DeviantArt community member: the Mediterranean-Class USS Diligent, NCC-41811.
While based on the existing USS Odyssey set, I modified it somewhat to resemble the older USS Saratoga one. This includes swapping the whole viewscreen area to the TMP era version of it, making the bridge half a meter shorter at the front, and replacing the side alcoves with flat panels with a single door.

The styling is very much inspired by the Enterprise-C, but with more modern (early TNG) style LCARS in place.
