Spoilers 31st/32nd Century Ships Revealed

One thing IMO which would be useful, in regards to many of the new starship designs shown, would be greater detailing and features which suggest scale.

Most of the new ships exhibit interesting shapes and silhouettes (as they should for designs of this era), but also in some cases lacking details which allow the viewer to make sense of these shapes, in relation to crew / human / alien / member scaling.

I noticed that as well and was confused because it's unclear what it's meant to represent. Your idea that this is a piece of the Hiraga Gennai is great! Perhaps the wreck crashed sometime after Doctor Issa's death, explaining why she only speculated on HG's destruction in 3064.

IIRC, the Hiraga Gennai was destroyed in the nebula. It didn't make it to the planet.

Do we know where it was destroyed? Plus that nebula made sensors pretty worthless. The ship could have flown right by the Kaminar ship (or crashed next to it) and they could have missed it.

What we do know is that Issa was still only pregnant when the Hiraga Gennai failed to arrive, so it would have crashed years before her death.

If the crash was visible from the front window of the Khi'eth, one would assume it would feature rather prominently in Sukal's memories and also the disposition of the hologram as regards Outside and Anticipated Input...

Might of course be the Gennai was on her way to the crash site when Su'kal Burned her; then limped towards the crash anyway, because there was nothing else closer by anyway; and then tried to land, but failed - and at that time, Su'kal was already immersed in the holo and noticed nothing.

The Mars and Saturn classes are probably my favourites out of this bunch. I wonder if the Angelou class is some type of long range exploration cruiser designed for years/decades long missions in deep space, hence why it has a tropical island. Alos another I noticed on my rewatch of 'That hope is you, part 2', in the scene where Discovery begins firing on the Federation fleet, a Angelou class is clearly seen being fired upon and it's holographic hull appears to have become solidfied and armored.

Could be there's a crew that requires a rainforest-type habitat or interface. Could be the forest is the mission, and these ships are Silent Running to preserve species or habitats, or spreading those to places in need. A cool design in any case, and apparently not a single-ship class as per the Burn demo-graphic.

I get the feeling starfleet was stuck with whatever they had left, and is just keeping those old ships maintained.

The Maathai has been maintaining a tropical rainforest perhaps 120 years. Maybe the world the forest came from is gone, unlivable and that's all that's left, or it's being maintained to transfer an actual developed rain-forest to a terraformed world one day. Terraforming projects would normally have to start from scratch. Being able to introduce an already developed biome in place might be useful.

The visual representation of the Burn, where dots on a map turn into ships that turn into explosions, shows at least two of these jungle ships perishing, at different edges of the Starfleet operating theater. So a single operation to save/remove/introduce a single world's forests is unlikely, but a wider forestation project might be ongoing...

Gorgeous. Definitely gonna get one.

Like the refit Enterprise remained a Constitution-class ship but also carried the moniker Enterprise class, it’s easier in my head to organise the Voyager-J as an Intrepid-class, Janeway-subclass vessel.

The blog doesn’t state it but I hope the Intrepid-class console sets (Aeroshuttle deployment, etc) work on the Janeway class.

(Now we just need an extra class name for the Enterprise-B Excelsior refit). :D

I'm thinking STO will release these one at a time :)

I'm not sure I understand why people say these aren't workable as physical models, they clearly connect their parts, and they can build them that way.

The in-universe explanation also makes sense, as we saw Discovery connecting with programmable matter.
