Spoilers 31st/32nd Century Ships Revealed

Funny how it was so essential that they clutter up the original Enterprise to make it look “realistic,” but when they want to show “futuristic,” as the Enterprise design originally intended, it’s right back to the smooth, minimalist hulls.

That's the way it should've been to begin with.

The original Connie was relatively Smooth & Minimalist for it's time.

It's funny to me because these hulls don't look futuristic so much as organic.

Give me the Connie, any variation, over these.

To each their own. I think they look just fine. Nice to see more variety of shapes in Starfleet than just nacelles and saucers.

Agreed! I like my nacelles and saucers, but that's what I got Star Trek Online ships for. In the 32nd century, Starfleet ships just have to look wildly different from what we know. We already got that with the Universe-class looking familiar but intentionally ridiculous, and chronologically later the Wells-class having an alien shape with a mixture of old and new recognizably Starfleety features.

I like nacelles and saucers too. But there is more to ships than that.

I always go with the idea that 1960's TV was too low-res to be capable of accurately showing "greeblies" all that well. TV and movies got better with that in later years, so the textures and whatnot that really make sense on a starship were added. If for nothing else than to spice up the visuals.

Now, we're in the HD age and a smooth hull (which might make more sense on a 32nd century ship designed to use slipstream, transwarp or some newer version of warp) is able to be rendered well on-screen.

I don't feel like it's a big deal whatever the explanation.

I was always fond of the Wells-Class. STO also has some ships inspired by it

Verne-class (I had this one 3D printed because I liked it so much)

Paradox-Class (from the Mirror Universe, has no Prime equivalent.)

Those images are gorgeous! I have prints of all the 29th century ships. I always felt that the onrangey Klein-class mirror ship looks like a futuristic Ferengi ship.
If you mastered the image-hosting magic, could you also link images of the classes Chronos, Eternal and Ouroboros, please?
Those are from the 31st century and fit the timeframe of DSC S3.

Season finale is out!
Only thing I learned from scouring the interwebs so far is
Voyager gets name-dropped twice, and a Ni'Varan fleet turns up but I don't know if we see it.

Do we learn anything more about the other Starfleet ships? New names, new registry numbers?

you kind of see briefly, but not that well.

Just got to say how awesome it is that the forest ship is named after Wangari Maathai, who started the Green Belt Movement. Quite a fitting name.
Admittedly, I had to google a lot of the names but I got a warm, fuzzy feeling from each one. As a foreigner, I appreciate the conscious thought of ship-naming non-US activists and explorers.

Or maybe Starfleet just ran out of notable Anglos after 900 years. :rommie:

The Ni'Var ships are called Razors and we see them briefly.
New ships:
* Foresight (civilian evacuation transport)
* Coloma (mining vessel)
New registry:
* NCC-325002 (first ship on the left when Discovery returns) - no name as we see the underside of the ship

We got to see a LOT of ships in the finale, but what's with all the blue hue? Where is the color? All these ships kinda blended into the background. Kinda miss DS9 fleet scenes, where you can see all kinds of different colors and you can freaking tell all the ship apart without "zoom and enhance"
