2x13 - Alliances

Feretti didn't die, Kawalsky did. Feretti was shot by a staff weapon in "Children of the Gods" but was able to tell the SGC the address for Chulak. Then he spent the rest of the episode in the infirmary. Later he had a walk-on in the last episode of the season. His name came up on one or two other occasions.

I didn't watch it...It looked boring.

Not enough pornography?

How could you miss what you quoted? Boring doesn't mean not enough pornography. Your Universal Translator needs adjustment.:techman:

We will probably find out where Atlantis is in the upcoming episode Seizure.

I just looked at the "summary" yesterday.
I bet we don't get much info period.

--------------------------------
“Alliances” drew approximately 814,000 viewers (Live + Same Day) on Monday night, with a 0.4 household rating in the 18 to 49 demographic. This is down 12 percent from last week.

Great use of the stones. They're always interesting. Loved seeing the issue of how someone feels about returning to a body that will die from radiation exposure. One thing that I found distracting though was seeing Camile with her hair down while in a lady with her hair pinned up and vice versa.

Also, I saw French Stewart in the credits, but throughout the episode, I wasn't sure it was him. He looked different and I'm used to seeing him in a more comedic light.

Mike Dopud as Varro. Give this man a starring role.
I thought the same thing. It would have been nice if he were bumped up to "regular" status.

I'm honestly glad the show is being cancelled. I'm hoping that the franchise will rot for five-ten years, and then some people who can actually write are given the chance to "reboot" it.

The premise is fantastic. The writing makes my brain bleed.
I've been thinking about that over the last few weeks. I've come to like the various series' characters and all the development we've seen over the last few years more than I like the premise and I don't want everything wiped out and rebooted.

Another thing i wonder about is how long can they keep all this hidden from the public?

In the old days you had just a few SG teams working out of a mountain complex. now you have not only that but a few ships with decent crews, off world bases and projects, other world goverments that are in on it, various polititions. A lot of these people on bases and ships dieing, attacks on earth covered up. etc.. etc. It's just rediculas now.
Been thinking about that too. An awful lot of people know about the stargate program. Too many to keep this a secret. People must talk.

...Carter and McKay who can decipher and reverse-engineer alien tech with five minutes' lead time, etc. If you keep all those things, there's no dramatic tension. Destiny's crew could have come home right after they arrived.
My understanding is that what became SGU was supposed to be a DVD movie, so I'm guessing they would have gotten home fairly quickly.

If anything, Stargate operations will be ran from Atlantis, as Pegasus gates supersede Milky Way ones.

Atlantis still has to be on Earth, it makes no sense to move it. With that, the Lucian Alliance poses no threat to Earth. I find the whole thing ridiculous. They created this threat with the alliance wanting to attack Earth just so they would have conflict in the show, but it makes no sense.
I heard that if Stargate Atlantis had continued, the city would have been sent back to the Pegasus galaxy. Can't wait to see what actually happened.

The only people that don't know about the gate and aliens are the little people. The various governments are like the Goulds. They have tech thousands of years ahead or at least hundreds while the little people are stuck in their version of the shitty medieval village with rags for clothes. When a Senator or President needed some cool alien healing tech they would get it. Little people are just left to rot.

The SGC has access to Naquida reactors and other high energy systems, but let the rest of the world run on dirty nuke tech, coal, and oil.
Haha, never thought of it like that.

Theoretically all these people that know about the stargate would create...(in effect) a modern day legend.

Since when did Naquadriah become so commonplace? Back in SG-1 Langara was the only place where Naquadriah was found. It was why Anubis tried to occupy it. It was why Ba'al sent a spy there. It was a property unique to that planet. It's bad enough we had the super rare Icarus planet which also had Naquadriah, and even worse when the Lucian Alliance found their very own identical Naquadriah planet. But now the Lucian Alliance has enough Naquadriah that they're building Naquadriah bombs? And even better/worse, Naquadriah bombs are so common that TJ's boyfriend knows all about their design? Come on, now I've got an image in my head yet again of the cartoony cliched supervillain that is the Ruler of the Lucian Alliance, sitting in his throne room in the Evil Tower of Doom(tm) wearing his dark robes, twirling his moustache laughing evilly overy his plan to conquer the galaxy with his uber devastating doomsday weapons. Thunder clap, flash of lightning.

And isn't using a Naquadriah bomb just a bit too much overkill? A standard Naquadah bomb should do the trick, and is far more believable.

Just what is the status of the SGC these days? Is it still in Cheyenne Mountain, or has it been moved elsewhere? People from Cheyenne Mountain have been seen at the Pentagon like Walter and Dr. Lee, and even Daniel implying that Cheyenne Mountain no longer houses the Stargate. Even last week, when Telford returned to Earth, he was quickly sent back to the Pentagon. However, we know the Pentagon houses Homeworld Command, and this episode frequently refers to Homeworld Command and Stargate Command as though they were two seperate entities, so what's the deal? This has been an ongoing source of confusion throughout SGU, and this episode didn't help clarify matters at all.

So I guess all scientists Rush associates with are spineless and shady bastards? Rush himself certainly falls under this criteria, and now Dr. Covell turns out to be no better. I would suggest that the IOA should consider a better screening process when hiring scientists, but then most of them are shady evil beuracrats anyway, so I guess all this is normal fare.

So, anyone think the senator's dire predictions that Destiny and crew won't last much more than six months (if that) is supposed to be some hidden in-joke about the show being on the verge of cancellation when this episode was filmed (and now confirmed cancelled)? Or am I just over-analysing things?

I suppose this wasn't a bad episode, but it wasn't too great either. Average, with some okay moments here and there but otherwise forgettable.

Keep in mind that they were actively looking for a planet with these specific properties, and they've found two in the galaxy (or however much they had to explore). If it can occur on one planet, it can occur on others. I can't remember the exact backstory, but naquadriah was artificially created from naqadah by a goa'uld for an experiment, wasn't it? It's perfectly possible that it was tried on a few different planets.
And by that logic, it stands to reason that in the decade since the rediscovery of naquadriah that they've figured out how to do it on their own. Of course it requires naqadah, and we don't know how efficient or fast the process currently is. It's plausible that in the past decade many people have actively been pursuing the science behind it too, considering how powerful it would be for them.
As for why they used naqaudriah instead of plain old naqadah, maybe because it's more powerful? This bomb was apparently 50-70 megatons for a pretty small bomb. I'm not sure how that stacks up against naqadah, but that sounds pretty powerful to me.

"Plain old naquadah?" Once upon a time, that stuff was supposed to be the cat's meow. Now apparently it's old hat. Apparently naquadriah is now commonly refined for all sorts of purposes. Note the reference to "weapons-grade naquadriah", which suggests there are other kinds.

I assume they used naquadriah in the episode because of its radioactivity. Naquadah doesn't appear to be radioactive, although logically it ought to be. (On one occasion they mentioned its half-life.)

Can anyone answer this...

Can the ring transporters work without a ground platform to ring to? I do recall the Ori once dropping a platform on the ground and then soldiers were ringed down on it, with the rings emanating from the base...but I'm having faint memories of them being used without a platform too.
If they work that way as well, then why would the LA need to land a cargo ship and leave it there? You can plant bombs simply by ringing them down from orbit, or at least while hovering over the target location..

lazy writing buddy, these writers dont like to think logically anymore

thanks. for some reason I thought French Stewart's movie character died in Sg-1. :alienblush:

with those type of injuries he was prob given an honorable discharge and a purple heart w/cluster.. he was shot up pretty bad in COTG

It appears there are two ways to use the rings: sending the rings directly, or sending the transport beam that they use. In the latter case, it has to go to a receiving platform.

We've seen ships dropping rings directly, with no ground platform, on quite a few occasions. In "Tangent", Jacob sent the rings into outer space to retrieve Jack and Teal'c after they ejected from their death glider. Similarly, they once ringed a Kull warrior right out of a cargo ship at high altitude, effectively dropping him to his death. I also remember seeing an alkesh drop rings several hundred feet from ship to ground to retrieve someone. It was fairly obvious there was no platform there. I forget the episode; possibly "The Other Guys"?

I would bet that having a receiving platform makes it easier to operate. You just say, "Send to that platform over there" and it works automatically. Without one, you probably have to program the distance you're sending the rings, to make sure you're not materializing someone ten feet in the air, or pounding them into the ground, or some such thing.

But it appears you only need a receiving platform if you're ringing inside a structure. When you send the rings directly, they have to physically move back and forth, which means they would crash through the ceiling of a building every time they were used directly. (We saw that once.) Or more likely, an intervening structure would block them from being used.

But it appears the transport beam can pass through solid matter. So all that's needed is a receiving platform inside the structure that the beam can travel to. (The rings that you see there aren't the ones from the sending platform; they just pop up from the receiving platform for reintegration.)

^^Thanks for those examples. I thought they could be sent down to the ground, which makes the LA's tactics even more suspect.

I know Atlantis was going to be moved back to Pegasus if SGA continued. But IMO, that is the most stupidest idea ever.

They wanted to end Atlantis and they didn't want to go back to it. The movie DVD was a farce. It doesn't make sense to send Atlantis back once you bring it home.

The IOA and all the Earth governments involved in the Stargate program would never allow an asset as great as Atlantis to leave Earth. It makes no sense to take Atlantis back to the Pegasus galaxy. They don't need Atlantis there to rage war with the Wraith (which at this point Earth really doesn't even need to worry about). They can build a base on a planet there if they need one, and use Deadalus class ships to get there and fight the war if they want to, they don't need Atlantis itself there.

It is too great of an asset on Earth, they wouldn't just let it fly away to another galaxy after finally getting it home. You don't just send the greatest city/ship ever built by the Ancients with all its technology and database of information millions of light years away after you just got it home, heh. The goal of that project was to find the lost city of the Ancients, and they not only found it, but brought it home, after that, the project or mission is over. Now its up to the researchers to study it on Earth and possibly use it as a command base on Earth.

Actually, no. Despite how serious his injuries looked in Children of the Gods, Feretti was seen again in the season 1 finale, still on active duty. And in the season 3 episode where O'Neill retired, Feretti was mentioned as one of the officers rumoured to be getting command of SG-1, making it clear he was still on active duty at that point. No further referance was made to him after that, nor did he appear, but that could mean anything. Maybe he resigned to pursue other interests?
