Thumbs down for both episdoes. One hour into the season the show already feels very stale. Also the ATC critical system takeover scenario is outlandish even by 24's absurd standards.

On season 8 of 24...

Jack Bauer, Jack Bristow, John McClane, John Rambo, Dutch Shaefer, Vic Mackey, Elliot Stabler, Frank Castle and Andy Sipowicz team up...

... to open a family restaurant.

It's 2017 ;) And how soon we forget the MacGuffin X-Box from Season 4.

;)

What I don't get is this----when a laptop says "deleting", wouldn't the immediate response be to unplug it and pop the battery rather than attacking the keyboard?

Similarly, who the heck cares that ATC's comms have been locked out. JFK's tower should be the one talking to them at that point anyway, and *they* would have backup hand units with the signal strength to reach the plane just fine.

Yeah, I thought that too. Guess she wasn't as tech savvy. ;)

This isn't good. Other than the final 5 minutes, I was underwhelmed. I think they're trying to squeeze so much in and like in other seasons, it's making me lose interest. I mean you have the thing with Sangala, the Dead Son, Tony and Jack, the ATC plot, the CIP Firewall unit, and everything felt so cluttered. There were some good bits (I did like Walker and the Jack and Tony scene at the end was fantastic) but with so much going on, I find myself a bit lost already. Not the way I would have wanted to see 24 return. Hopefully tomorrow night's shows are better.

Agent Walker looks like she's gearing herself up to be Jack's protégé. She killed both the tangos on the boat before Jack could even react. She's willing to play fast and loose with the rules while paying lip-service to hesitance and doubt. Hell, it was her who suggested bringing him in and has been pushing for his talents to be put to use.

They could do some interesting things with showing a relative straight shooter going down the same roads Jack must have earlier in his career. We've never really seen how Jack got to be Jack. From the S1 start he was already Badass Bauer, kicking ass, taking names, exposing moles, liberally (that's little "l") applying torture methods and shooting badguys in the face.

I'd like to see someone who's not already a super-secret counter-terrorist actually try to emulate him. Maybe she can do it or not, but the attempt ought to be entertaining.

And Annie Wersching is a beautiful redhead, so the crush I'm developing for her won't be as awkward as the mancrush I have for Kiefer...

I wonder if her red hair and freckles goes all the way down?

I'm also wondering how long before we learn that CTU isn't really "gone" it's just far more of a shadow organization and it was saig to have been dismantled as part of some-sort-of public lipservice.

To be fair I remember naught from 24 season 3 onwards. :)

I don't think she'll be anyone's protégé after episode 4.

I loved parts of it, although the conservative bent the show has been espousing since season three has gotten old. Great to see Tony back, and all of the new characters (for once) seem interesting. We'll see where it goes from here.

I can't help wonder if the show isn't taking a bit of a "liberal bent" with Jack admiting that his crimes need to be brought out into the open.

So, we're two hours in and Jack has not yet thrown any tables or killed anyone.

Jack needs to step it up.

;)

Janine Garofalo (sp) is a welcome addition even if, so far, she's like an extreme Chloe Lite.
Agreed. I'll take Janis over Chloe ANY day. Chloe gets on my last nerve. Does that woman even have a pleasant expression? She always looks worried/sad/constipated.

The FBI lady is hot and also a welcomed addition.
Thanks to those who mentioned her name, IMDB tells me I knew her first as Diana Bloom in Journeyman's second episode, "Friendly Skies." She played a woman who, in the 70s, gave birth in an airplane 30,000 feet over Lake Tahoe.

So far I'm unimpressed witht he White House staff and president, and the dead son subplot.
I love Cherry Jones; I think she's an excellent choice to play a convincing female president. I hate that her husband's character is being played up to be her weakness.

I always wanted to see Jack Bauer team up with Jack Bristow from Alias. Two guys who will do anything for an answer.
Put Victor Garber on this show and my head would explode. How does this show manage to pull in so many great actors? It's mind-blowing.

Overall, I'm liking the characters this season is introducing much better than many of those in previous seasons. The writers don't need to go overboard with the quirky personality traits, but it's nice to see people having more to do than walk from desk to desk, kiss each other in shadowed corners, and give each other worried looks across the room.

That part kind of surprised me. In all the conservativeness of the show, it was actually quite refreshing seeing that scene. Other than the final scene and Walker, that was probably my favorite scene in the whole two hours.

I think these parts of the show were filmed two years ago, before last year's WGA strike. But even then with the upcoming election, the crumbling Bush adminstration the "tide changing" to a country with a more liberal bent was written on the wall so I wouldn't be surprised to see Jack and this show take that stance towards the end of this season and in any future seasons as it needs to "keep up with" the times.

I mean, sure, it's like the year 2017 in 24, but it's still in a Democrat-controled 2009 for us.

;)
