2023 book releases

I just found this on Amazon:

Star Trek: Discovery: Somewhere to Belong by Dayton Ward - coming out on May 30.

Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the USS Discovery are finding that each day is a critical adjustment to their new lives and new missions in an Alpha Quadrant more than nine hundred years in the future. It’s here that Discovery is reconnecting with various worlds where the cataclysmic event known as “the Burn” has decimated Starfleet and, with it, the United Federation of Planets. There’s been precious little time for the crew to truly come to terms with their present reality, as their devotion to duty hides the emotional stress that could impact their effectiveness, and even threaten themselves or others.

After a successful journey to yet another planet cut off from the Federation, Discovery picks up a distress signal located in a nearby star system—a plea that harbors roots from their past lives in the 23rd century, and which may now lead to an entirely new crisis, plunging them all into mortal danger…

StarTrek.com is excited to share some exciting news for all our Star Trek book fans!

The next prose novel in Star Trek and Titan Books' Star Trek in-universe captain's autobiographical line is The Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko. As we continue to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, we're taking the opportunity to explore the fascinating life of Starfleet's celebrate war captain, and Bajor's Emissary of the Prophets — Benjamin Sisko.

Thanks for this news I've been wanting a book about Benjamin Sisko being an autobiography. It's great that they're finally doing a book about him!:bolian::beer:

Hmm... I'm not a fan of this 'autobiography of a fictional character' format, but I may have to make an exception for Sisko.

I do wonder when this book will be “set”. Doesn’t seem like a project he would have undertaken during the final days of the war, so I wonder if they’ll have him return post-DS9.

Non-linear experimental stream-of-consciousness novel set post-series. :D

I would guess they'll go with the same conceit they did with the Kirk and Spock autobiographies, that the manuscript was found among Sisko's stuff just after he disappeared. At the very least, I doubt they will have any mention of Sisko returning, not since there is a chance now, however unlikely, that this could be dealt with onscreen.

Maybe he tossed the manuscript out of the wormhole, fully written.

"Hey, I guess now we know where Jake gets it from, don't we?"

Jake oughta write the foreword, at least. Or be the in-universe ghostwriter.

The number of fanfic novels that seem to be cropping up on Amazon is quite frankly shocking lately, but they seem to have no mechanism to report an item that infringes on an IP

IIRC, only the copyright holder can report on Amazon. But just look at Axanar, still selling unlicensed Trek merch years after reaching a settlement specifically forbidding them from doing so. If CBS really cared, all this knockoff stuff would be gone.

There's an unlicensed Trek novel I'm seeing on Twitter, with authentic looking cover art. It's a bit sad that we've had so few actual releases but the guy behind this can get his book printed
Nice art! No "Star Trek" though, so it's not pretending to be licensed. Looks very military, in the Axanar vein that doesn't appeal to me. Interesting that it uses Kenneth Wescott, from the Errand of Fury novels.
