2016 MLB Regular Season - It's an Even Year...

The Cubs are still fairly well ahead of St. Louis, but they're suckin' it lately.

They can't hold a lead when they do get one, and in any case letting games get too far out of hand to catch up.

Jose Reyes was released by the Blue Jays, which under the circumstances in understandable. However there is talk of him coming back to the Mets. If he does come back to the Mets, what's the over/under on how long before he's injured for the season? 6 or 7... weeks? no days.

Released by the Rockies FYI. We traded him for Tulo.

Rangers/Yankees wait until the top of the NINTH to put down the tarp? It's been raining like this all evening, they couldn't just wait for another three outs?

Those decisions are up to the umpire-in-chief, not the teams.

^ Hmm. From listening to the commentary I got the sense that it was Girardi's idea (the Rangers did have men on base, and Jeff Bannister was some kind of pissed that they stopped the game) although I suppose he could have talked the chief ump into it.

According to the Official Rules, the decision whether or not to play a game is up to the home team manager. After the first pitch is thrown, all judgment regarding the play of game is up to the umpire-in-chief.

Well, I'm not going to say that Arrieta is cooked, but I will say I'm very, very glad the Cubs didn't give him the seven-year deal he wanted over the winter. His release point is off, he's doing a stutter-step with his left foot and he just looks tired.

I wonder if Arrieta is having arm fatigue already. He's looking like he did at the end of the post-season. Hopefully nothing worse than fatigue.

Of course that doesn't explain the other four starters looking like crap.

Arrieta just looks flat-out tired. I mean, sure, his BABIP and LOB% were due to regress, but I'm wondering if Maddon needs to have him skip a start or two -- I spent some time this morning reviewing his last few appearances and everything about his delivery seems off.

There is a plan to have Warren be a 6th starter for one or two times through the rotation. I don't think this will help if the regulars starters keep giving up 7 or 8 runs.

I think MLB in general has adjusted to whatever the Cubs were doing to be a .700+ team, and the Cubs have not adjusted at all. The Mets had an answer to their plate patience in the playoffs and still seem to have the Cubs' number.

It looks like the Mets are going to activate Jose Reyes today. He's been playing 3B in the minors, so it looks like that's going to be the position he plays up here.

Eta: I wonder where he's going to bat?

^^ Are the Mets this desperate for a healthy body? Reyes is nowhere near the fielder/batter he once was.

With David Wright and Lucas Duda both on the DL, basically an automatic out at Catcher, playing kids in left field and hit a homerun or strikeout in right with Granderson. Yeah, we're kinda in need of hitting. Thankfully Cespedes is having an All Star year, he's saving us. Also Walker and Cabrera are doing okay and everyone else are inconsistent at best.

ETA: So, Jose Reyes is batting in the leadoff spot and playing Third. Moving Granderson to number 2 in the order.

The Indians couldn't have made the right field upper deck at Progressive Field any uglier even if they'd taken a gigantic dump on it.

After losing Matt Harvey for the season to an injury that could potentially end his career, both Cespedes and Syndergaard left today's game for the Mets. The team claims that Syndergaard's issue is just fatigue, not elbow trouble, but their medical staff has the credibility of the Iraqi Information Minister, so we'll see...
