For a while, this one wasn't impressing me as much, but the standout moments for me were Whitley's. When he was saying to Jones "What if I have to choose between the serum and Ramse," I assumed the subtext was that he wouldn't hesitate to kill Ramse for the serum. But he totally surprised me, abandoning the mission when his trigger-happy man killed Ramse's girlfriend and refusing to sanction further bloodshed. It was quite harsh to kill the one who'd done it, but it was an effective way for Whitley to defuse the situation before there was any more violence.
I was a little unclear on why Ramse was so interested in learning about the Army of the 12 Monkeys from Jennifer when the last thing he wanted was to prevent the plague. I guess he was learning what he could about it so that he'd know how to prevent Cole from undoing it, although that's a bit iffy, given that he believed taking the serum was enough to prevent that.
Anyway, I'd been wondering whether Ramse might end up traveling in time himself, but I'd expected that he'd be doing it as Cole's partner, or maybe his rescuer/backup when he got trapped in the past or something. I didn't expect it to happen like this. I'm also a little worried about Kirk Acevedo's long-term future on this show. If he'd gone back to 2015, he could've been a new recurring nemesis for Cole. But now he's apparently back in 1987 with no way to time-travel forward again (well, except the usual way, one second per second). Which suggests his arc might be nearing its conclusion. Which would be a shame, since he's the best actor on the show, not to mention the only nonwhite actor in the lead cast (since Whitley is recurring only).
