‘Superman & Batman’ movie will follow ‘Man of Steel’

Just finished re-watching Man of Steel... I'm not going to argue with anyone, but I really don't see the negative backlash against Supes killing Zod. The movie took great pains to establish over and over again he didn't have any choice.
Why is it that when ever anyone tries to defend this assassination of Superman's core principles, they make it sound like the movie was a documentary of real world events, and not a situation created 100% by the writers of it? "Supes didn't have a choice, so it's totes okay that he went against every single thing he believes in and flat-out murdered Zod! At least he felt slightly upset about having to do it! It's fiiiiine!"

To be fair, conversely you could say that just because they're fictional characters why must they remain completely static, even in their beliefs.

It's taken me a long time to come around to this new version of Superman. I grew up on the Christopher Reeve/Richard Donner Superman, and that's the only one I've ever known. Even 'Lois and Clark' and 'Superman Returns' gave us this version. So MOS did strike me as "off" at the time, which is why I never really warmed up to it. However, that is the version DC is wanting right now, and I gain nothing by continually hoping for something that I might not get for a while (if at all), though I do have this feeling Superman will come around eventually, maybe not completely turning into the Reeve version, but at least being imbued with a little more optimism.

I love how all of a sudden anyone who doesn't like the movie is now somehow a "Marvel fanboy". Speaking as an unapologetic Marvel fanboy, I really, really, wanted this movie (and MoS, and the entire DCEU) to do well. And while the style and tone may appeal to a segment of the fanbase, it obviously isn't catching on with mass audiences. Even if I'm not looking as forward to this movie as much as I hoped I would be, I still want it (and Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman) to be a success. It comes off as if DC fanboys are desperately trying to convince the world that their movies are better than they actually are.

I've always felt that Zack Snyder's reputation far out stripped his output.

First, I am a Marvel fan (You can like both Marvel and DC. Flash Fact). The guys entitled to his opinion and I don't have a problem reading negative reviews about films, even films I like. My life doesn't depend on the success or failure of a film. I do prefer to read articles that don't come off looking like they were some post on a comic book forum. I've read more cogent analysis of films by posters here. YMMV though.

At any rate, the reality is that this movie is probably just fine. Not a great film, but certainly not the bomb that some folks are making it out to be. People have this idea that if a film isn't the greatest film ever, then it's the worst film ever. This film is probably a good film, just not a great film and you know what? That's perfectly fine.

Ah, but isn't it just a little disappointing that the first meeting of these classic characters on the big screen isn't in a great film?

An event like this has certain expectations. For a movie like this to fall short is a Star Wars prequels level of disappointing. I still hope I enjoy it, but I don't feel as if it will be the event that it deserves to be.

I grew up in a time when most superhero films, what few we got, were disappointing. So unless the film is complete and utter shit, which it doesn't appear to be, then I'm cool with it. I enjoyed Man Of Steel immensely and so far every review that I've read has pretty much said that if you enjoyed that film, you'll probably enjoy this one.

That doesn't mean I'll be blind to it's faults either. I have my problems with Man Of Steel, still one of my all time favorite superhero films. I love Star Trek, but I will still point out it's flaws and / or make fun of stuff just the same. Better than most non-fans. Doesn't mean I still can't love it for what it is.

While I don't agree with every choice he makes, I do appreciate that Snyder is trying to give us films that have the same serious tone as The Dark Knight Returns and Kingdom Come. I wish Marvel Studios would make a film that serious because then it would match most of the stuff I remember reading from them in the 70's and 80's. Marvel was always the darker of the two in the comics world.

I'm seeing BVS today and I'm pumped! I'm watching "Dark Knight Returns" right now for foreshadowing.

I can't wait to see Henry Cavil as Superman again. He was excellent in MOS. He had the look and the physique, and I was greatly relieved to see this "grim n gritty" Superman was still a polite Boy Scout with the military and with Lois. I loved that he was a pacifist and a (new to the game) bad ass all at once. He desperately wanted to believe Zod came in peace, and was willing to hand himself over to him, but also expected things to go south.

I particularly loved the scene with Lois in the interrogation room; he had a real presence there. And in the aftermath of the Smallville battle, where he gets out of the wreckage and the Rangers are there aiming guns at him and he just calmly looks at them, and the general comes up and says "this man is not our enemy". Great moment.

I don't do that myself. I hated BvS, but it's far from "worst ever" on any level. Batman & Robin is worse. Catwoman is worse. Fant4stic is worse...mostly. ;)

I have no weird agenda when I say that I hated BvS. I'm happy for other people enjoy it, and I empathize with those that don't.

If that's the only argument you have, you've already lost. As that is, honestly, one of the dumbest things I've ever read considering what you were replying to.

RottenTomatoes shows 30% critic rating for BvS, but 74% audience score.

I think that's just the typical disconnect between the ivory tower of film critics, and the real world of just having a good time at the movies.

I've always felt that Watchmen is far better than its reputation would suggest.
I actually thought Snyder improved on Watchmen, at least with Ozymandius' plan.

I was going to post the same thing. I'm trying to think of a Comic Book movie that honed closer to the source material then Watchmen. While I like a few other comic book movies more, it's up there with the all the good ones.

The director's cut of the Watchmen is one of my favorite films.
