‘Superman & Batman’ movie will follow ‘Man of Steel’

Of course Snyder is going to say including Batman in the sequel was the plan all along. Do you really think he'd say, "Uhh, we just included him because WB wanted to make more money"?

I don't imagine it took too long after the MoS reviews and box office came in before they started thinking of ways to get Batman in there.

Not that it didn't do well or wasn't a good film in its own right - but I'm sure they imagined greater.

Superman out did both Capt and Thor domestically but came up short internationally. This with TWS and TDW being the second solo film of both Capt and Thor. As well as being their 3rd theatrical appearance when you include Avengers. Without a doubt BvS will be bigger. Not just domestically but internationally. Now that the market is acquainted with the franchise, there will be a larger demand to see a MOS sequel.


Also MOS sold more copies on Blu-ray and DVD than IM3. Iron Man being the highest grossing comic book movie of 2013. It was the highest grossing film of 2013 before Frozen came out on Nov 27 2013. Although a large part of Frozen's BO probably came in during 2014.

So the MOS franchise definitely has legs and room to improve. It's just fighting an uphill battle for relevancy in a market dominated by Marvel, Fox (X-Men) and Sony (Spider-Man).

That might be in part because there's only been two Superman movies in the past 20 years or so, only 1 of which was an origin story. We've had like 5 Spiderman movies in... how long? 2002? Ugh.

Burton's "Superman Lives" would've been a Planet of the Apes (2001) cluster fuck.

JJ Abrams was attached to a Superman project called "Superman Flyby" in 2004. As fate would have it, Henry Cavil and allegedly Amy Addams both auditioned for the roles of Supes and Lois in that flick; only to ultimately be cast several years later.

Can you imagine a JJ Superman film? I think we missed out on that one. WB ultimately decided to go with Singer's script, that became "Superman Returns". Singer chose to go with Brandon Routh over Henry because of the former's resemblance to Chris Reeve.

I recently watched Kevin Smith's talk about his experience with WB, Jon Peters, and Tim Burton. That is some funny stuff (even if it is probably embellished a bit).

I take that to mean that SR was intended to be a direct sequel to Superman II, keeping with the Silver Age tone of the Reeve films. The Nolan films don't mesh with that very well.

Well being a JJ fan (despite my distaste for STID), I think he probably would have made a really good Superman film. It would certainly be much more colorful and visually dynamic than either Singer's or Snyder's movie, I bet.

Although from interviews he's given since, it sounds like he probably would have explored the same basic themes as those two movies, with a Superman questioning if he truly wants to be humanity's savior, etc.

While a JJ/McG Superman movie sounds great in theory, the leaked script about a living Krypton and Lex Luthor being an evil Kryptonian just sounded horrible.

Hmm, looks like I might have been right about people putting the blame on Superman for Zod coming to Earth in the first place. Which I'm perfectly fine with, because in the real world you can be sure people would be suspicious or resentful of Superman's presence no matter how much good he did or didn't do.

And I like that Snyder is continuing to explore the idea in that way, instead of having everyone just automatically embrace him from the get go.
