The costume designer has confirmed that we will see The Flash and that the desert scenes are all a dream.
So I guess I was wrong about the desert stuff being part dream, part real.

Zack Snyder made some BvS/TFA mash-up gifs, in anticipation for TFA. Last year, he also made those images of DC and Star Wars characters super imposed into each other's worlds. I think Snyder want to direct one of the Anthology films Disney has planned. Or he could just be a big fan.

Why should Frank Miller have gotten a credit for TDKR? The writer of Knightfall, whom I forget right now should have gotten one not Miller.

If you're crediting comic book sources, that movie had more influences than just Knightfall. The Dark Knight Returns influences were all over it.
