The Legend of Korra: Book 3

That episode was great! The battle, even though I knew it was going to be hopeless for our heroes, was incredibly intense.

Also, after Korra's little conversation with Zuko, I'm wondering if he'll end up visiting Iroh in the Spirit World. That's a reunion I would love to see!

This show has really found its footing. It's amazing how much it has improved since the first season.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee... Zaheer had better not have just done what it looked like he just did! Would they do that? They'd better not do that! Oh, it's gonna be a longgggggg week...

I'm glad they brought back Mako & Bolin's family (do they have a surname?), though Granny remains kind of clueless about the Earth Queen. But I guess her "May she rest in peace" line confirms Hou-ting's fate.

And having Korra talk with Zuko about Aang was kinda nice, but did he actually give her any useful advice, anything she couldn't have figured out on her own? Well, I guess we haven't seen how things play out.

Meanwhile, I'm still frustrated at what a lousy job my computer does handling the video streams from Nick.com. I checked afterward, and it looked like the videos were QuickTime files, so I tried updating my QuickTime program. Hopefully it'll make a difference, though I haven't tried it yet. If it doesn't work, I may try to find somewhere I can get a good signal and watch the last two episodes on my smartphone, though then I'd have to settle for a pretty small picture, and I'm not sure it would fit within my data allowance for the month.

No. NO HE DID NOT!

He better not have. That scene was stressing me out!

Having seen Iroh there as well as an overall lack of spirits in the physical world, it seems that the bunch of them are content to stay in the spirit world. Looks like most of the ones who are interested in venturing out are the equivalent of simple animals or butterflies.

Looked pretty violent for a kids show. I wondered too if the they had the guts to kill off Tenzin like that but it was only a thought. It never occurred to me that it happened or that they'd actually go that far.

I've always thought that someone would have to have seen The Last Airbender in order to fully appreciate The Legend of Korra but that scene made me wonder what it might be like to see this show first and then watch TLA as a prequel. Imagine being introduced to this Zuko and then going back to see how it all began.

Here's the thing, though: Given the censorship they're under, they have to approach any death indirectly and not show it. They cut away from the Earth Queen before she died, and the doors closed in front of Jet before he sacrificed himself. So when the camera very pointedly moved behind that wall to hide Tenzin from view... well, that scared me. Hopefully that's what they're counting on to fake us out, though.

Really, though, it is the Red Lotus's goal to kill all the national leaders, and they already offed Hou-Ting, so it's hard to see why Zaheer would spare Tenzin.

I tried looking for Nick.com tech support, but all I could find was a page for NickJr.com, which said their video required the latest version of Macromedia Flash. My browser has Shockwave Flash from Adobe, which I'm updating even now. Is that the same thing?

EDIT: Wow, that's weird. The browser I was updating was Firefox, which I use for certain functions Opera can't handle, and I was posting this message in Opera while updating Flash in Firefox. And when it finished installing the update, I got a new "installation complete" page for the Flash plug-in -- but in Opera, which I had in the foreground, rather than Firefox in the background! Weird.

I'm hoping for a dramatic last-minute rescue...maybe from Kai and his new Bison?

There's also the fact that killing off the mentor is kind of a standard step in the Hero's Journey, to clear the way for the hero to gain independence and succeed on her own. And Korra and Tenzin were getting along so well this season that it seems something bad has to happen as a source of drama.

That would add some dramatic Tenzin to the series. ba-dum-tish

I get that, and I wouldn't be that upset if it was just Korra who was losing Tenzin. But Tenzin has a family! He has kids and wife and a brand new baby! If he dies, it might just break my heart.

I agree. I hope they don't go there. But this is just the show that would dare to go there, and that wouldn't settle for some lazy or cliched copout like a last-second rescue or Zaheer suddenly deciding to treat Tenzin differently because he's a series regular.

Well, the season is called "Change." Tenzin's death would certainly qualify.

I'm just trying to figure out another way for him to get out of it. No way can Korra get there in time to rescue him.

Maybe Zaheer will treat Tenzin differently because he's an Airbender now?

Just watched. Kai wasn't Jinora's Jet... but either Tenzin is badly hurt... or Jinora is now the new Master Airbender...

... or Jinora is now the new Master Airbender...

Whoa. That makes me fear for Tenzin's survival even more, since it would be a logical payoff for Jinora's arc lately to graduate to master status.

Realistically speaking, the Red Lotus don't want him dead. Indeed they need him alive to leverage Korra's cooperation (to what end, we have yet to find out) and killing him will just send her into full on avatar-state berserk mode. As nasty as that looked, I'm *mostly* convinced that they're "just" beating him into submission...or at least unconsciousness.

Oh and I think Jinora will be made a master regardless. I mean Aang already had the tattoos quite a ways before he ran away and he seemed even younger than she already is.

The more I think about it, the more I agree with this. Zaheer's plan was never to kill the Airbenders; he just wanted to hold them hostage to get to Korra. With Tenzin as a hostage, they still have leverage. If they kill him, they're screwed.
