The Legend of Korra: Book 3

Really enjoyed this episode.
I was glad we got an explanation for Zaheer and his group. I like the fact that they tied all them into Unalaq and last season's arc. I always like it when shows tie season arcs together like that.
I loved the bit with Bolin's fans. I did not see that coming.

Bolin cracks me up. Easily my favorite of the group.

If he doesn't end up Metal/Lava Bending by the end of Book 4 I'll be rather sad.

I guess I'm watching the show on Thursday nights before bed now.

3x10: "Long Live the Queen"

I can see how a network catering to kids might have a hard time with this show. What Zaheer did was handled discreetly but it was still pretty brutal to watch.

The Red Lotus is also a bit sympathetic. Zaheer wants a better world for the people, by the people and I was rather impressed with how well they treated Mako and Bolin under the circumstances. Again, I have to keep in mind that this is a kids show, but still.

Two weeks left. I can't wait to find out what they want with Korra.

Nick.com's player is still working poorly for me -- I was getting either a jerky, out-of-sync picture or a low-resolution picture. Do I need a Flash update or something? Or should I just give in and sign up for Amazon Prime?

Asami is MacGyver! She broke out of jail, fixed an airship, and escaped from the desert by being smart and clever and mechanically adept. Completely awesome.

Poor Bolin. The feel-good cliches just aren't working for him. Maybe he just can't metalbend.

And that's probably the first time in recorded history that airbending has been used for murder. Although I'm concerned at how euphemistically they approached it. I hope they don't reveal later that the Earth Queen survived and is really in prison.

As for Zaheer being sympathetic -- sure, he talks about wanting a better world, but as we heard on the radio, all he really accomplished was the creation of chaos and social disarray. It's not enough just to tear things down -- you need to have something better to put in their place, and that's something Zaheer doesn't bother to deliver.

Prime doesn't have Season 3 for free yet.
But DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD! It's another Jet, people. Except she's not a bad boy who tried to make good at the end.

There has not been one weak episode this entire season. My only complaint is that I wish a little more time had been spent with the shipwreck story, learning the personalities of the other people, etc.

Sucking the air out of the Queen's lungs was incredibly brutal (in a good way)!

I've been wondering. Do the Air Nomads have a chief political executive? If so, does that mean Tenzin will most likely be targeted for assassination by the Red Lotus?

Tenzin appeared to represent the Air Nomads on the council in Season 1, which was funny since he was the only adult member of that nation

But given how laissez faire the Air Nomads are, they didn't seem to really have a government or nation back in the day and so would not be a threat to the Red Lotus.

Well, at the moment, Tenzin is the senior air nomad both literally and organizationally. Even if they didn't traditionally have a single leader, Tenzin has to be the leader now because all the other airbenders are less experienced and he's their teacher. (Hmm, I guess air acolytes are members of the nation too, by choice. But their job seems to be pretty much to serve the airbenders.)

In Korra's vision of Yakone's trial, an Air Acolyte was the councilor at the time.

I'm still confused on how the United Republic is supposed to work. The series generally portrays the United Republic as the world's fifth sovereign nation (to the ire of the late Queen Hou-ting), but do people like Tenzin, Toph, Tarrlok, Varrick, Iroh, etc have dual citizenship or something? Tarrlok and the other councilors "represented their own nations". I thought the Republic's people were their own nation, not citizens of other nations simply living in the United Republic. Tenzin. Was he simultaneously chief executive of the Air Nomads and a senior Republic leader? And Iroh. I find it incredible that the presumable heir to the Fire Nation throne is a member of another nation's military.

Season One seemed to suggest that the United Republic was a conglomeration of the entire world. Then suddenly in Season Two we learned there were still separate and sovereign Water Tribes. I think they changed their minds between seasons.

I would suppose that the United Republic is not a fifth nation so much as a federation of nations -- each nation retains its own identity, but is part of a larger superstate as well. Republic City is the capital of the United Republic. The area around it is considered UR territory rather than Earth Kingdom territory because it was formerly the site of the Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom, and declaring it shared territory was the compromise to resolve the dispute. Or something like that. So I guess Huo-ting wanted to withdraw the EK from the Republic and reclaim what she saw as EK territory.

I was reading up on Robin Williams yesterday and I saw that his daughter Zelda Williams did some voice work for the show. She played Kuvira in 3x08 "The Terror Within".

Change: 3x11 "The Ultimatum"

Wow. I was on the edge of my seat right up until the end of it...

I'm anticipating next week's 2-parter finale so much more so now.
Book 4 can't come soon enough.

Wow.

A lot of filler in the form of more fighting, but it was pretty intense. I also lost that bit of sympathy I had for Zaheer last week.

Only 40 minutes left to wrap it all up. I hope it isn't rushed.
