I would if indeed purchasing TNG BD helps, but what we've heard from credible sources alone has been conflicting on whether or not purchasing TNG will help at all. I liked the facebook page though (as mentioned previously). That was easy regardless of whether or not it helps.
I don't necessarily think DS9 Blu-rays will never happen, but I'm skeptical, mainly because of the cost and time involved, along with what can only be lower demand for the sets compared to TNG. One thing's for sure though. If DS9 is remastered, and CBS want to shift the sets, the extortionate prices currently being charged for the TNG Blu-rays, if applied to DS9, simply won't cut it.
I feel extremely uncomfortable when I'm given "advice" like that from those credible sources. The buy product X if you want product Y (with no guarantees) schtick doesn't sit well with me. Before anybody chimes in, yes, I understand how the economics work etc. CBS aren't obliged to give us anymore HD Trek and risk monetary loss etc. I just don't like this kind of "ultimatum".
The Star Trek shows have probably paid for themselves many times over. Not that that matters to the bean counters
I would hardly call $60-$70 "extortionate" given the amount of content we're getting (26 x 1 hour episodes and several hours of bonus features) and the amount of work being done to get the product out...
Yeah, I don't really consider $60-70 to be very extortionate for 26 remastered episodes plus a ton of bonus content. Extortionate would be $60-70 for 10 episodes plus bonus content. (I'm looking at you, HBO.) Or to put it another way, movies generally cost, say, $20, and that's only for approximately two hours of content plus whatever bonus features, if any.
$60-$70 ?? All the seasons up to season 5 have dropped to the mid $40s. Not bad at all. Wish they would do so again and I'd buy them fast.

Season 6 in the UK is the equivalent of $100. Yes, they are sometimes expensive, but they sometimes go on sale for really good prices. $45 is not high at all for a TNG season and Amazon has sold them (S1-5) for about that price. So yeah, sometimes they are really high and other times they are very reasonable. I will buy next time they are reasonable.
Bizarrely this seems to be standard retail practice in the UK - it was a bit of a scandal for software a few years ago. It all seems a bit weird as physical media is surprisingly rapidly becoming anachronistic, if not obsolete. I can't help but think that we will never see DS9 blus just because the format probably only has a few years left in the mainstream.
I visited Scotland last year, and found that to be true for just about everything there. I was spending pounds as quickly as dollars.
Well they won't be doing as well out of individual Trek fans when physical media disappears. I've got to admit when TNG-HD shows up on Netflix I mostly won't get the Blu Rays out to watch an odd episode.
Physical Media still has at least a decade or two. Streaming is all well and good if you have a fast enough Internet connection. There are still many areas around the world that don't. It doesn't make buisness sense to limit your customer base.
One decade at most I'd say. It makes little environmental or business sense to keep pressing factories open for the tiny minority of customers in the developed world who won't have a streamable connection by 2024. The CD is very close to disappearing altogether, DVD sales are plummeting and Blu Ray has started to decline, Blu Ray 3D was basically a failure, and 4K Blu Ray will if it ever arrives be resolutely a niche product. I'm uncomfortable with the idea, but in a world facing the challenges we do right now, its increasingly hard to justify shipping thousands of tonnes of plastic where thousands of GB of data will do. At the minute in the UK we are looking at a badly-run government program to fund rural broadband that has turned into a slush fund for BT. That said, even in the UK we will sort it out in 10 years....... probably!
Phew, just got done reading all 50 pages of this.. There's some good discussion/theories being passed around but like a previous poster mentioned, this is sounding exactly like the kind of down-beat speculation on TNG-R before that project was announced. I personally believe that we will get our beloved DS9 on BluRay, at least eventually and to a TNG-R standard. Don't worry. As we all know the current format for the rest of the franchise is outdated and crappy looking (read: no longer sell-able) DS9-R WILL happen mark my words, whether or not it's to the same standard as TNG is however debatable. This is due to the already mentioned monetary and creative reasons, but I have a hunch that CBS will go the extra mile with it (even if they lose money in the short run..) Anything below TNG-Rs standard will only show a lackluster faith for one of its larger cash cows (read: not a good look) With all these new formats buzzing in and out of existence every few years, one thing is certain - DS9/VOY are UN-SELLABLE and OUTDATED as a profitable product now. They will either take the risk at making some more bucks over the coming decades or bury both shows THIS decade. One or the other people. I think it's obvious what they will decide. Don't worry! And for gods sake, walk with the profits..
