Agents of SHIELD. Season 1 Discussion Thread

Hm. Maybe that Winter Soldier scene was meant to place us in continuity... meaning that this episode of SHIELD took place right before that scene in the movie. Clever, if so.

^Yup. As I said, the bit about Sitwell being called to the Triskelion, as well as the line about Fury being back on the grid, also serve to position the episode relative to the movie.

I usually wait a couple of weeks to see a new movie so the theaters won't be as crowded, but this time I feel I ought to see CA:TWS before next week's AoS episode. Which I'm sure is what they wanted.

I always wait for DVD, so I'll just have to muddle along.
Out of interest is that just because you don't like going to the cinema?

As I see people say this a lot. I don't know what the prices are like in the US, but here in the UK a cinema ticket costs me less than buying a brand new DVD/Blu-ray. So doing that would actually cost you more. And also then if you don't actually like the movie, you're stuck with a physical DVD you'll never really want to watch again.

Unless your local cinema is really expensive. My average price is about £7-8. A brand new DVD is generally £9.99, a Blu-ray around £12.99-14.99

What do y'all suppose is the deal with Hand? Is she maybe
an agent of HYDRA like Alexander Pierce?

Only May's group went south. Ward's group had suspicious indications (closed prison Shield didn't know was closed) but Coulson's issues could have been coincidental.

The prison wasn't closed, was it? I thought they showed a cup of coffee sitting on the counter, still steaming.

Was TWS clip at the end actually meant to be part of the episode? Putting this episode in context with the film?
The impression I got was that Fury was in a car chase at the exact same time the plane was being rerouted by Hand.

That may not necessarily be the case though.

yeah, I took it to be a way to drop a time-anchor for the events of the show vs. the film.

If not, it's pretty confusing.

Personally, I want Hand to be the bad guy (well, gal), what could the team do against her? It would be thrilling to see.

That was shocking that Ward shot him (and I doubt it will be easily forgivable) but Ward has the rest of Shield standing in his way.

I think the question is whether he did it under orders or not. The implication seems to be that he did.

Exactly right. I came to really hate the experience of being sardined in with a couple hundred rude people. I really can't recall ever going to the movies and not being annoyed with someone on some level from a mere facepalm to wanting to use a flamethrower on their whole family.

I grant that the price is a problem. DVDs at less than $20 were comparable in price to an evening for two at the movies, if you factor in popcorn and soda. A $32 BD is pushing that envelope for sure. But I honestly think the convenience of being home and not dealing with other human beings is worth it. :)

And yeah, it's true, we have a lot of movies we'll never watch again. Another trade-off I guess.

It still might not be a bad idea to make an exception this time, though, if you're watching AoS. Maybe a matinee showing, so it's cheaper and less likely to be crowded.
