Its a little under a week away, but this video posted on Facebook today inspired me to start the thread now.

The poem is a little pretentious, as if the show is supposed to be more than the soap that it is, but I'm still interested in seeing how they move forward without Larry Hagman.

Anyone else excited the show is coming back?

Cool! I thought it was gonna be more like April.

Glad to have something to watch.

Didn't they open their own gas stations in the original series? ;)

It's about damn time. The wait between seasons for this show has been ridiculous!

Sort of. During the year-long contest over who would win control of Ewing Oil following Jock's death and the reading of his will, J.R. chopped gas prices down to a ridiculously cheap cost in order to drum up more business for his half of the company.

Can't wait. Looks like they'll try to keep JR's spirit alive.

The only good thing about tonight's episode was the opening credits... and they were awesome. The show itself was embarrassingly awful. I'm officially done with Elena. Too bad... She was my favorite when the show began two years ago. Christopher, the wuss, is not much better. But at least his behavior has remained consistent.

Actually, I take it back. Tonight's show wasn't a total loss. I do like where things are going with the John Ross/Rebecca/Emma triangle. Reminiscent of JR/Sue Ellen/Kristen, which I have no doubt that Sue Ellen is going to bring up sooner than later.

It felt like kind of pointless because they were laying plot threads for this season, which is all well and good, but something still needs to happen. I agree, the John Ross/Pamela/Emma triangle will be the most interesting thing this season, moreso than any wheeling-dealing or stuff involving Cliff and Elena.

Great. I miss JR, but I like Bobby, Sue Ellen and the rest of the gang and they have my attention now. Should be interesting and I'm glad the show was given a chance to continue.
The little commercial for the gas stations was effective - I actually do recall that storyline from last season.
I still think Brenda Strong was miscast and shouldn't be in the show.

"Yayy!" That's what I said when I saw it. (Though with the shortened theme they don't have time to show both the Dallas landmarks and the cast. If they lengthened the intro again then it would truly be a Dallas opening.)

I'm really beginning to like John Ross. I think at some point it occurred to Josh Henderson "Wait a second...I'm supposed to be playing the son of JR Ewing!" Last night he was just that! He was charming and devious and not at all the whiny bitch I couldn't stand the first season. He was great.

The original cast members are still strong and the youngsters are all improving (Though Jesse Metcalf's going slower, and for this I assign partial blame the writers who really can't seem to get him far out of "Yeah, that's what my Daddy said" mode.) I think this series will manage to carry on even without JR Ewing to fall back on. I'm looking forward to a season four , and maybe five.

How sweet would it be if they included an 80's clip in the threesome for Patrick Duffy and Linda Grey?

I wouldn't mind if Gary came back and channeled his inner J.R.. It would give the character something to do.

Didn't Bobby say at the graveyard that he was the only one left? Gary must have died over the haitus.

I think it was fairly obvious that he meant "the only one left at Southfork," (of the original family.)

Jock, Miss Ellie, and J.R. are dead. Clayton is dead. (And as cardinal biggles asked me earlier, where exactly is he buried? He sold the Southern Cross, so its unlikely he'd be there. Maybe he was cremated?) Pam is dead. April is dead. (And in the case of the latter, she's not been mentioned a single time since the revival began.)

We even see Aaron Southworth, Miss Ellie's father's grave. We can assume his son (Miss Ellie's brother) Garrison is dead by now, as would be Jason Ewing and as we know from the old show, his daughter Jamie is as well.

Everyone else who would be eligible or possibly eligible to be buried on Southfork is still alive. Ray, Gary, Jenna, Charlie, Lucas, Donna, Margaret, Lucy, James, Valene, Mitch, Michelle, Cally, her unnamed son by J.R., Debra-Lynn, her son with James, and Jack are all, presumeably, still "out there" in the Dallas universe.

The point is that of the (blood) members of the family from the original show, Bobby is the last one alive and living at Southfork. That's why the plotline/jokes with John Ross about "remodeling" carried some extra weight. Bobby is representing the middleground between the original show and the new. John Ross is baptized in this episode, given his father's belt buckle and watch, and is already wheeling and dealing to make trouble.

This coincided, beautifully, I thought, with Elena's first steps toward becoming the Ewings' new antagonist (if not outright enemy and villain of the show). Hers is a storyline I'm quite interested in watching unfold.

I predict we'll find out Cliff had those deeds faked to make it look like J.R. screwed Elena's father.
