Agents of SHIELD. Season 1 Discussion Thread

Yeah, it was weird to hear "hyperbaric chamber" (which is for creating conditions of high atmospheric pressure) used to refer to a cryogenic chamber.

Maybe it was a hyperbole chamber. They were inspired by Stan's cameo. Which I loved, by the way-- I hope that's me in forty years.

This was certainly the best episode of SHIELD yet. I loved the multiple-track storytelling device, and the use of the tour guide voiceover was the perfect orientation tool. The characters and their interactions were perfect, from Jemma's over-preparation to Ward and Coulson's talk about sex to Fitz's American accent and "worst fake girlfriend" quip to everybody's reaction to Sky getting shot. Sky getting shot was absolutely horrifying, which is not only a credit to the writing but to how much I've come to care about the characters.

It did occur to me that a trip to Tahiti might be necessary. I certainly don't think Sky will die, but this should be interesting.

Agreed on all points, and may I also insert:

"You can't take the Skye from me!"

Peace

Also: slavery and liberation as ongoing themes.

Mike, as enchained as Akela was. And as Quinn implies himself to be. It wouldn't surprise me to find that I understand the implication correctly.

Question for the railfans among us more knowledgeable than I at these things: can you recognize what sort of consist used to masquerade as Rotalia Italia Numero...?

(Guessing that the actual Italian participants in Eurail, Trenitalia, would've asked too much to allow their trademarks to be used here.)

The Magical Place was January 7, Seeds was January 14.

Then we had a break. Now we've had T.R.A.C.K.S. and now we're having a break again.

So two.

ETA: TRACKS technically builds on Seeds, but if you missed it, it can probably be watched out of order.

Thanks. My DVR messed up recording Seeds. I saw TRACKS and wasn't too, lost, but I guess I missed out on some major revelation about Skye. It's onDemand, so I can watch it this weekend.

So the delay got me thinking. I thought this season was supposed to build up to the events in TWS, but it seems the timing is off. By my count:
March 4 - episode 14
March 11 - episode 15
March 18 - episode 16
March 25 - episode 17
April 1 - episode 18
April 4 - The Winter Soldier
April 8 - episode 19
April 15 - episode 20
April 22 - episode 21
April 29 - episode 22

Given the intimate connection between SHIELD and the new movie, it's hard to avoid spoilers like they did for the most part with Thor. It makes me wonder two things. First, did they know about this break to plan ahead and, second, is the season going to line up chronologically and have elements that come after the movie?

Granted, they've been developing SHIELD as an agency that's not entirely trustworthy all along, so that seems similar.

I guess my thought was more about avoiding spoilers for those who hadn't seen the movie yet

The Thor 2 'sequel' episode happened a few weeks after the Thor 2 release, right? I think there were a few episodes of AoS between the release and the Thor 2 episode. It definitely wasn't the first new AoS episode after the movie came out.

^But even so, not everyone sees a movie the week it comes out, so even though "The Well" aired about two weeks into The Dark World's release, it still kept its spoilers for the film to a bare minimum -- basically just that there was a big battle at the University of Greenwich and alien tech was involved.
