Except that's already still in the movie when Spock says "Because you needed each other." It is their destiny according to 09 and ID for these two to be friends, no matter the universe. Even in the Mirror Universe there was some hint that, even as different as that universe is, Kirk and Spock were friends.

Have Shatner do a Harcourt Fenton Mudd camo in JJ-Trek III.

He's certainly heavy enough and would probably pull it off with quite a bit of finesse.

I still think he would have been good as a bald bolian bartender. Just serve a drink to Kirk, maybe make one snide comment, get a huge laugh from the audience, and that's it. It would have been fantastic to finally see a bald shatner, even if he's in blue makeup. And he'd make one hell of a bartender.

There's no need for Shatner, but I wouldn't be surprised if they squished him into the next movie in a similar manner to Spock Prime in ID. 50th anniversary and all...

As others have suggested, Shatner would *never* agree to portraying anyone but Kirk, and I must agree. If Nimoy gets to be Spock, Shatner gets to be Kirk. They are, after all, the originals, and ST is a ground-breaking show (and this isn't the same as, say, Lou Ferrigno playing a security guard in the Hulk movie).

As others have suggested, Shatner would *never* agree to portraying anyone but Kirk, and I must agree. If Nimoy gets to be Spock, Shatner gets to be Kirk. They are, after all, the originals, and ST is a ground-breaking show (and this isn't the same as, say, Lou Ferrigno playing a security guard in the Hulk movie).

I have to say the mind meld idea was amazing! It would have given us a chance to see Shatner as Kirk, without it being too intrusive on the new characters.

Shit I can't believe they didn't roll with that.

I wish they'd just ignored "Generations" and included a living old Kirk in 09, if only for the fact that "Generations" is a crappy movie that deserves to be ignored.

The Shat's looked unwell for years - he's all bloated, like Elvis. I, for one, have no desire to see James T. Kirk looking like that. It's enough to know that Shatner originally played him. I just hope that The Shat rips off his rug for some T.V. movie he's in, or whatever else, like that. It would be so cool to just see him own his baldness, for once! Depending on how it was played, it could even be iconic ... seriously!

Shatner has been in as many Trek movies as Connery was in Bond movies. And that's not counting three seasons of TOS. That's a good long run, I think, and more than enough for anyone.

I read that Brent Spiner had a great idea for Nemesis II, it was to bring ALL the captains together in one movie and the script was already written but the dismal showing of Nemesis I trashed that idea in a hurry.

I also read chapter 1 of a story where the opening was the bridge falling at the end of Generations, was Kirk on a holodeck that was built for him after his retirement and living in Iowa.

The problem with this idea is simple. If they keep shoving original cast members into this new continuity, then it's going to come across as just doing it for the sake of nostalgia, which it would be. They already kind of had to contrive a scenario for Nimoy to appear in this timeline, but I thought that it worked for the most part. However, if they keep doing it, then it will get old really fast.
