I love Nightwing. He's a favorite character of mine. I do wonder how well he'll work without all of the history associated with him, though. Part of the appeal is that we saw Dick grow up from being Batman's sidekick into a hero in his own right.
I implied this half-jokingly a little ways up thread. But we're only assuming it's Talia. Since, AFAIK, they've never actually mentioned her by name.

EXACTLY. Take away his history with Batman and who is he? Just another none super powered vigilante in a mask. Even though the Teen Titans cartoon never directly mentioned Batman, Robin's history with him was alluded too.

That was a nice thing they did for the little boy. And SF was Gotham City for a day. 
For the Flash it makes sense. The standalone pilot for The Flash will have a much bigger budget than a single episode of Arrow will even if it's a back door pilot. It kind of messes up the plans they had for Arrow post The Flash appearance though.
I am only sharing this because he's right. Also my wife has been shipping on those two for EVER.
