Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID42?)

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

You sure you're not confusing opinion with fact?

About Airbender? No. Not even slightly...well OK, I'll concede that the costume design, cinematography and editing was competent and that some of the actors did the best they could. But that's all.

I know art is subjective (I am an artist after all), but being art doesn't mean it's any good. Quality can be an objective thing. Bad writing is bad writing, bad acting is bad acting and Airbender was a bad movie.

Doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. I have a soft spot for a number of bad films, but that doesn't make them better films.

And as for Stargate... I would like to see a return of Kurt Russell and James Spader. The Stargate story can allow for that. Open up the Stargate 30 years later.

Except the article says they won't use Russell or Spader because they're "too old."

Thankfully, James Spader isn't too old for Avengers 2.

Emmerich: Independence Day Sequel May Not Be Trilogy

According to Emmerich, the plan remains for a cliffhanger to divide the two sequels. Intriguingly, he'll eschew the Peter Jackson approach of shooting both films at once in favour of a costlier suck-it-and-see strategy. "We'll only do the first part," he says, "because we want to have the audience decide if they want to see the second, otherwise it feels arrogant. But I'm pretty confident, with the right script..."

Thank you, Emmerich, for having some sense in you.

Personally, I have always disliked those back to back filmed movies. I have yet to see where it worked, except for the Lord of the Rings films. Films suffer when there is no creative input (from fans and professionals) between their productions.

Jarod, what about BTTF?
I was about to give that as example. I didn't like Part III.

Also Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions.

Superman II sucks, in either Lester or Donner version.

And when I hear about James Cameron's plans of shooting Avatar 2, 3 and 4 back to back... oh boy.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

If you make a decent movie and have a plan you don't need fan imput.

Now we will get one movie with a cliffhanger ending? That's stupid.

Do you want to see how Prometheus ends?

Aren't there rumors about him being the new Human Torch in the Fantastic Four reboot?

The man is on fire!

Will somebody pleaaase notify Tim Burton?

If there'd be a second ID4 but no MARS ATTACKS 2 the cosmic balance would be severely screwed up.

Mars Attacks and Independence Day are both profoundly stupid movies with impressive casts and neat scores. The difference is, Independence Day is actually a fun movie.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

I never understood what is supposed to be so stupid about Independence Day . I see no stupid stuff in it, except for the Randy Quaid subplot, the dog escaping the fire wall and that stupid saluting guy. But then again, all Emmerich movies have that awful amount of saluting.

I see great acting in the pivotal scenes and great chemistry between the actors all around, amazingly executed action scenes, a fantastic soundtrack and excellent visual effects.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Does the whole computer virus resolution not strike you as kind of stupid? Or the fact that the President just hops in a plane at the end, despite the fact that he's one of the few government figures to have survived the attacks? Granted, it's fun to see the President lead the offensive, and it's fun to see the aliens taken down by such a simple measure, but....it's still pretty stupid.

And I don't mean to present this as an indictment of the movie in any way. It's that fun.
