Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID42?)

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

There's still a lot of storytelling left to be told, too.

All we saw was them (likely) destroying the mothership and one of the cityships. There were still plenty of their fighters zipping around, and there were very likely survivors after the cityship went down. It's also unlikely given the dialogue that every other cityship was attacked during the admittedly short amount of time it would take the cityships to recover their shields after losing connection with the mothership, though the general tactic of launching weapons at their megaweapon just as it was firing as I can't imagine that working with their shields up.

And even if they did manage to eliminate all the aliens who came to Earth, they now have access to all sorts of alien technologies which they could have spent the last umpteen years reverse-engineering and perfecting for what could be the rest of their fleet or even just another mothership. If not another invading race altogether. And you just know Earth's flagship (if they have one) is going to be named after Casse.

That's all on top of the storytelling about rebuilding what's left of the world's governments and infrastructure, though I doubt that'd be a part of the movie(s).

Well we now at least 5 city ships were destroyed because they showed then crashed in Egypt, Sidney, etc.. The Impression was that most to all were destroyed. I would like to think that one got away to bring help but who knows.

The other thing the movie showed is the ships (well the attackers anyway) had no power until the mother-ship showed up. So, the city ships (and attackers) could have all lost power power when the Mother-ship was destroyed. We don't now if those ship generated there own power. We do know that the ships computers are tightly connected to the mother-ship's computer since the virus was transmitted down to them.

I would love an ID4 sequel as that movie is a treasured childhood memory. Maybe the second time the aliens invade, mankind has reverse engineered a fleet of UFOs to fight back with!

Now that is a good idea!! :techman: I just LOVE alien invasion movies so I wouldn't mind a sequel!

Probably not wise to dwell on such details since I doubt the filmmakers put much thought into it, but if the small attack ships need to be close to the mothership to work, then how did the Roswell ship get here in '47? More to the point, what made it crash? What in 1947 could have take out it's shields? Did it fly too close to a nuke test? We know the city destroyers could withstand a direct hit, but perhaps the shields on the smaller ships are weaker?

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Collision (that's how Will Smith won in his little dogfight), piloting error, or hardware malfunction (they did spend time repairing the ship, so whatever was broken might have been an otherwise easy fix) are three simple reasons right off the top of my head.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Maybe the Roswell ship was intentionally left behind by the aliens as a recon mission. A City Destroyer might have dropped it off and then immediately left the solar system.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Am I the only one that wants Emmerich & Devlin to merge both Independence Day with Stargate?

After the events of ID4 the Stargate at Cheyenne Mountain is moved to Area 51. An attempt by the ID4 aliens thru the Stargate fails. An new Stargate team is put together and go thru the gate to the planet of the ID4 aliens and learn they are prepareing another attack on earth.

Stargate team does it best to stop the attack as it heads to earth and starts the battle and another team battle from earth.

Heck you can make these aliens that built the stargate and base another tv series off it. Talk about a real reboot.

Didn't they plan that very thing? I keep forgetting which is which, but either the original Stargate film was supposed to be ID4's sequel, or ID4 was ITS sequel.

I thought the rumor was that ID4 was the 3rd part of Stargate. Not sure what part 2 would of been about though.

Think the rumor was debunked but still they could work together since they Emmerich and Devlin want to reboot the show anyway.

Would love to see what they had planned for more Stargates movies anyway. Though not sure if the books are cannon or just written by other people.

Sounds like Stargate fanboys being desperate for Stargate to remain relevant after that franchise's death.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Stargates not dead, it's just been kicked in the face four hundred times.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

They came up with the idea for ID4 at a press junket for Stargate where a reporter asked what if the aliens came to attack Earth directly in ships.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Stargate had its chance. No need for it to leech off another popular franchise.

Like anything mechanical maybe the 47 ship malfunctioned and crashed?

IIRC, the actual legend of the Roswell crash says there was a big thunder storm in the region that night and that the intense lightning might have hit it and brought it down by accident.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Shouldn't the sequel come out July 3rd 2016? Why are they releasing it on the 19th anniversary instead of the 20th?
That was my thought, too. I wouldn't be surprised to see this pushed back to summer 2016. Not just for the 20th anniversary, but also to give the film more time to come together and to avoid what is shaping up as the most intensely competetive summer ever in 2015. They should try to reach a deal with Will Smith that both sides can live with. Despite the failure of After Earth, he would still be a big draw in an ID4 sequel and a sequel wouldn't feel right without him.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

I think some of the smaller vessels from the invasion force got through. To me, I consider Battle Los Angeles proof thata good space combat movie can be done on the ground without as many spacecraft.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

I can't remember, was ID4's Roswell ship of the same design as the alien fighters which were attacking Earth in the film's present?

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Identical.

That's how it walked in the front door.

I believe so, yes. It just had some extra earth-made hull patches welded to it because it was apparently damaged in the crash.

I was s disappointed witht that movie. It started off well but then became a typical war movie.
