Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID42?)

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

You know I used to think ID4 was stupid...and then I saw Signs. Now *that's* stupid. ;)
It's more of two hour warning to not waste any more money on that director.

And yet he still get's hired. :(

Yeah besides the whole point of signs is the aliens invaded a planet that's covered in poison, that rains poison, that has poison in the air for what reason?

It wouldn't have been so bad but they ran around naked, doing very little other than posing for blurry photos and running around on farm house roves. I mean, why exactly?

It really comes down to tone for me. Films like ID4, Armageddon, Starship Troopers and Pacific Rim know full well they're a bit dumb, but don't care and so they can have some fun with it.

Signs (and just about everything by MNS incidentally) on the other hand takes itself *sooooo* seriously that it's actually quite insulting. Also, what kind of egomaniac casts themselves as the visionary seer who will save all of mankind? Yikes!...but I digress. ;)

I don't understand why they couldn't have an eco-suit tip thing like in ID4. But then there is no way to kill them if they just stick on a raincoat.

Uwe Boll hires himself.
Only on paper. He rarely wastes his own money.

Until a few years ago ago he financed his "movies" through German investors who wanted to exploit a tax loophole that allowed them to fully write off and recoup losses incurred by the movie (a sure thing with Boll involved).

Part of that loophole has since been fixed, but apparently it's still profitable enough to waste money on his train wrecks.

Ah, but you're forgetting that they are also vulnerable to kitchen knives and are utterly confounded when faced by a locked wooden door...

Uwe Boll's movies are a different colour of awful. They're b-movies which I'm pretty sure he knows are garbage and doesn't care. Besides, nobody ever said this guy is going to be the next Steven Spielberg.

Maybe that's the problem. M. Night hit it so far out of the park on his first try that he's convinced himself he can do no wrong. He also seems to have surrounded himself with yes-men because I don't see anyone with a functioning brain being able to honestly say that these movies are anything near as good and MNS appears to think they are. At least not without lying through their teeth.

And yet my original confusion remains. Why does he keep getting hired and why do talented actors keep wanting to work with him?

The alternative of course is that he's the greatest troll since Andy Kaufman. ;)

^ Smith's exact words were "Aw, hell no!"

At least that's what I always imagine him saying...

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Pity, but understandable. All I want is Jeff Goldblum, but he's hardly as marketable as Will Smith, even now.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Meh, Smith'll get in if enough money comes his way.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

Smith probably wants something insane like 50-60 million for the movie.

Plus now there is talk of only one movie... ending on a cliffhanger. That's so stupid I wouldn't bother watching it.

Re: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin want to make Independence Day 2 (ID4

After Smith's "After Earth" bomb, he might just be willing to engage in this now.

Uwe Boll isn't getting $25-50 million anymore to make his movies. Now his budgets are no different than the other direct-to-video fare out there like what Steven Seagal or Randy Couture make.
