We've had "TNG Episodes That Would Work on TOS" before, so why not this? Obviously, the entirety of DS9 wouldn't work on TOS because of the different settings, plot points, and story concepts. But some of the episodes definitely would. Let's discuss!

"Defiant" - TOS didn't have a terrorist group made up of Federation citizens but a single episode dealing with rogue humans would be interesting (I don't know how Roddenberry would have felt about it, though). I can't imagine Kirk or Spock getting the wool pulled over their eyes by Thomas Riker (or the equivalent), but someone like Sulu or Chekov could easily play the Kira role. McCoy might be interesting, too, as he'd be a great foil for whomever the episode's villain would be.

"The Adversary" - Inspired by Lt. Stiles comments about the Romulans having spies aboard Federation ships. I like the idea of a Romulan impersonating a Federation ambassador and sending the Enterprise on a fake mission to start a war. He wouldn't be able to imitate other crew, but the story could be reworked to find another way to hide him while Kirk and company are searching for him. The story would work best if set shortly after "Balance of Terror," but the concept is believable and would work well for its era given the paranoia about Russia and Soviet espionage.

    "Homefront"/"Paradise Lost" -
A nice follow-up to "The Adversary." Maybe Kirk and Spock are called back to Earth after Romulans are suspected of blowing up a peace conference between Federation delegates and some other power. Not sure who to use as Kirk's turncoat mentor, though.

    "The Ship" -
Would be similar to "The Galileo Seven" but could work well with either Romulans or Klingons as the adversary (Romulans might be a better fit). Instead of having a Changeling aboard the damaged ship, there could be a respected Klingon/Romulan officer in stasis who dies near the end when the unit fails. Spock and Scotty would work well in the Worf/O'Brien roles, with Spock suggesting that the wounded redshirt should be allowed to die to conserve resources and Scotty throwing a fit about Spock's lack of emotion.

"Children of Time" - This could work with Spock in the Dax role, the lone living member of the Enterprise crew after the ship crashes on a distant planet. Take your pick for who the injured crew member is. There'd be no Odo/Kira subplot, but a credible way of working around this could be found. I like the idea of young Spock secretly reprogramming the ship while giving everyone the impression that his older counterpart did it, perhaps because of misplaced guilt about what happened to his former shipmates. Vulcan or no, it would be hard for Spock to outlive his friends while knowing that his curiosity stranded them there.

"Empok Nor" - Instead of a space station, have the crew visit an abandoned Constitution-class ship that's been taken back to dock for repairs/decommissioning. Not sure how the mysterious assassins aboard the ship would be, but having a bunch of redshirts die could happen just as easily by having the ship randomly malfunction. Scotty again works well in the O'Brien role. Chekov would be a decent Nog.

    "Sons and Daughters" -
A nice way to retcon both David Marcus and Demora Sulu into TOS before the films. Not sure how a 1960s audience would have felt about Kirk being an absentee father (not totally his fault as Carol hid her pregnancy from him), but this could have worked by having David decide he wants to be a Starfleet officer after learning about his father and Kirk rejecting him as a nerd with no street smarts or common sense.

    Any other ideas?

Past Prologue would work with few changes.

Sounds like the perfect role for my "wish they'd done Star Trek" top choice, Leslie Nielsen, who was doing lots of bad guys in those days.

Anyone who only knows Leslie from his later comedies should see what he does with what is essentially a cameo in The Poseidon Adventure.

^Interesting thought. Adding another few episodes to the mix, "Dramatis Personae" could work well. Although it is somewhat similar to "Day of the Dove," so maybe it's not the best choice. "If Wishes Were Horses" kind of reminds me of "Shore Leave," so maybe not that one, either.

"Nor the Battle to the Strong..." would have resonated powerfully with a '60s audience because of Vietnam. Having someone like David stranded on a war-torn planet with McCoy (like Jake with Bashir) while Kirk searches for them would be an interesting premise for a story.

The Passenger: McCoy tries to save the life of a critically injured criminal, but is 'brain-jacked' by him at the moment of death. (Something tells me Kelley would have done a better job than poor Sid did. :) )

Armageddon Game: Spock and McCoy are helping to destroy a biological weapon when they are apparently killed by a malfunction in the security system. They must then survive long enough for Kirk and Co. to figure it out and find them before they are killed to protect the secret of what really happened.

I love this one. I always loved any stories that had Spock and Bones in trouble together.

Duet - change the cardassians out for another race. Not sure which of the TOS characters I'd make the main protaganist in this, though. Maybe McCoy.

    Thanks, and same!

For fun, how about Trials and Tribble-ations?

During a fairly routine stop (not counting Klingons and Tribbles) at space station K-7, Kirk and co. become slowly aware that they are being shadowed by people pretending to be Starfleet officers, but don't appear on any official records. They carefully investigate the intruders, making sure they don't become aware that they are being observed. They turn out to be Starfleet officers after all, but from the future!

In the Pale Moonlight: Stardate 4607.6. Kirk decides that it is time to gain a new ally against the Romulans-- the Orion Syndicate. Harry Mudd, currently in the brig, suggests fabricating evidence that the Romulans were planning an attack on Orion and to present it to Syndicate high ranking boss Vreenak. Vreenak arrives, and Kirk shows her a record tape of a meeting of Romulan senators discussing plans to invade Orion. The charade fails when, upon an examination of the record tape, Vreenak recognizes that it is faked and takes off in her interceptor. However, the interceptor explodes, killing Vreenak and destroying the evidence. Harry has placed a bomb on the interceptor, thereby getting the Orions to declare war on the Romulan Empire and leaving one Starfleet officer with a very bad conscience.

"Starship Down" - The Enterprise is heavily damaged while chasing a Klingon battle cruiser inside the atmosphere of a gas giant. The incident sees Kirk seriously injured, Spock and Christine Chapel trapped below decks, and Scotty receiving advice from McCoy about how to improve the efficiency of his engineers. Meanwhile, Cyrano Jones and an angry Ambassador Sarek are forced to defuse a Klingon torpedo that lodges in the outer portion of the ship's primary hull.

"Rules of Engagement" - Sulu finds himself under fire after he mistakenly destroys a Klingon civilian freighter while in command of the bridge. A Klingon attorney (played by John Shuck) argues that Sulu be turned over to Klingon authorities for trial. Sulu's actions are investigated by Kirk and Spock, who were absent at the time of the alleged incident.

"For the Cause" - Kirk agrees to send industrial replicators to outlying Romulan colonies following an ecological disaster. The Enterprise arranges a rendezvous with a Romulan BOP only to discover that Lt. Stiles has commandeered the vessel and plans to use the replicators himself. Kirk vows he will track Stiles down if it takes him the rest of his career.

"For the Uniform" - Kirk finally catches Stiles after the latter attacks another Federation vessel and damages a Romulan cargo ship.

"Waltz" - more of a "What If?" episode. Kirk decides to check on Khan's progress only to discover that Ceti Alpha VI has exploded and shifted the orbit of the system's fifth planet. Kirk beams to the surface to investigate but becomes stranded when a mysterious figure assaults him and hides the captain in a nearby cave. The figure is none other than Khan. A wounded Kirk confronts Khan about his actions while in power on Earth and also aboard the Enterprise a few years earlier. The former is rescued after Spock takes a shuttle to the surface and surprises Khan.

If Wishes Were Horses - If anything this would work better as a TOS episode than it did as a DS9 episode. People who manifest from people's thoughts and are really energy beings. Sisko's speech at the end was trademark Kirk.

Blaze Of Glory - I think the whole Ahab thing would have worked better with Kirk than Sisko.

Waltz - This premise needed somebody other than Dukat and a more campy setup.

"Progress" would have worked really well. It already has a 1960's western feel to it.

And the TOS production team would have given it a better title!

Definitely "Move Along Home" with Chekov moving the pieces and Kirk, Spock, Bones and Uhura in the game. Spock would have killed it with his rendition of "Allamaraine."

But would Chekov have been lying on the floor crying after playing?
