Then you must not watch ANY television or movies, because I'm sure any show or film you DO watch has at least one gay actor.

How can you tell? Is there some kind of signal teh gayz give off?

And why would you not watch a show with gay actors or gay characters? Afraid you'll catch something?

I guess that shows how important an actors personal life is to me. I knew Quinto was gay and it completely slipped my mind.

As long as the guy can act, why should we care what he does with other consenting adults?

Indeed? Hundreds... or more. And stated and proven... when? By whom? Perhaps you'd be so kind as to illuminate this proof by providing a link.

So, the overwhelming majority of people. Bigots won't go see it? I can live with that.

Straight people will got to see it. Only bigots won't. As I said, I can live with that.

the women in new trek are already controversial because critics have accused them of doing nothing.

if trek was too add a gay character his sexuality should be irrelevant. the character should have a relevant part to the plot of the film, he should not be there just for the sake of having a gay guy on trek.

^^^ Agreed. It is also entirely possible, and could be argued, that Trek has had many gay characters over the years - just that nobody has ever felt the need to draw attention to it, as that particular demographic has been seamlessly interwoven into Federation society along with all other races, faiths and gender types, as well it should be.

It's clearly no longer a "thing" to talk about in the 23rd/24th Centuries. It would only be a "thing" to needlessly (and anachronistically) placate some members of a 21st century audience what the rest of us already know - that the Federation is a truly identity-blind society and accepts all for who they are without standing up on a bully pulpit and crowing to themselves how evolved, accepting and tolerant they have become (Picard's various self-aggrandizing lectures notwithstanding).

There's plenty of males doing nothing on the show, too. Plus I think the women of DS9, Janeway, Seven and T'Pol certainly did compensate for that.

I meant the woman of STiD. I personally don't think the backlash is fair. uhura was not completely useless as for carol ...its just a shame that the strip scene has greatly overshadowed her character.

Um... not sure if this is the correct thread to be posting this in (I couldn't find any Trek 3 news threads, so apologies if there was somewhere):

At a special public interview at the 2013 Galway Film Fleadh on Friday, July 12, Zachary Quinto discussed his illustrious career and his roles in Star Trek, Heroes and American Horror Story. BuzzHub had a front-row seat, and witnessed first hand what Quinto had to say about his current and future projects, including some revealing and intriguing information! When asked about his role as Spock in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek films, Quinto told the audience:
Star Trek 3 should be filming, I suppose, next year. It’s going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That’s the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet.
He was also asked if he would want to reunite with Abrams and appear in Star Wars Episode VII, and he said he would not, without giving a particular reason.
At one point in the interview, Quinto mentioned that J.J. Abrams was planning to direct Star Trek 3, which is another surprising fact, but once again, he did not elaborate.

If that's accurate, Abrams is going to have an extremely busy couple of years ahead of him.

I hope he can handle the juggling of two major sci-if film franchises simultaneusly. If true, it may very well be the first time this has ever been attempted.

Why would he have to juggle two? One releases in 2015, the other in 2016. Wars will probably film early next year and Trek either late in 2014 or early 2015. :techman:
