how can so many ppl be so wrong... the show is a great combo of a horrible actress, a capt who throws away the prime directive more than all the previous captains put together, a starship that looks like a toilet seat cover & nacelles that serve no purpose to rise before going to warp 
Every time I hear her talk, I want to scream " I AM A ROBOT" or "I AM THE REAL BORG QUEEN, CAN'T YOU TELL BY THE WAY I SPEAK"
All of the TREK captains have either made bad decisions or behaved in a way that made me question their ability to command. All of them. And yet, all of them have also proven to be very good at their job. So, I never understood this extreme criticism of Janeway, unless it has something to do with her gender.
I didn't really find that funny. I guess I'm not a "SOUTH PARK" fan.
True, but they weren't played by Kate Mulgrew...
To be fair, I think Archer is equally unqualified, and might be worse than Janeway in command ability.
But, of all the things I didn't care for in Voyager, Janeway was not one of them. Aside from some lame writing moments, Mulgrew's performance was just fine.
We'll have to agree to differ on that one...
This is how I feel about these "why the hate" questions too. I think a lot of "captain hate" or character hate of any kind is over-represented on the internet relative to reality. I think there are more fans of any given captain more than there are haters. I personally like all the captains. I have my favorites (KIRK 4 LYFE) but I like them all.
Easy. If Janeway was wearing the bun of steel, we were getting the stiff-ass, non compromising iron lady. If she wasn't, then we were getting the emotionally vulnerable Janeway.

Because comparatively, Jerry Ryan was, and is, a far more talented performer than Kate Mulgrew. Sex appeal aside, Ryan totally held her own with Mulgrew in acting talent and skill. Her ability to portray authentic confrontational scenes knocked it out of the park every single time. 100% believability, and her comic timing was genius. What Kate Mulgrew had to struggle to pull off came effortlessly to Jerri Ryan.

I don't "hate" captain Janeway. Kate Mulgrew is not my idea of a “great” actress, but she handled the role of Captain Janeway reasonably well. Nothing breathtaking, but adequate. I know it may sound unfair or trivial, but the one thing that annoyed me the most about her performance as Captain Janeway was the fact that her voice sounds like she’s been been inhaling helium. Very hard to ignore, and I know that's unfair. I once read a comment which remarked that her voice sounded like “Eartha Kitt with a hairball.” Funny, but a bit harsh. She definitely played her "husky" voice quite a bit.
Also, I find it kind of ironic that Jerry Ryan’s sex appeal boosting the show’s ratings was what Mulgrew stated that was most annoyed with– I thought a woman's looks didn't matter, Ms. Mulgrew.

It's sort of like the difference between the acting styles of Bob Hope and Lawrence Olivier– both entertaining, but hardly the same thing.
Second, for someone who wanted to be seen as a “feminist role model of leadership for women,” Mulgrew's on-set resentment of Ryan’s appearance was really telling. Basically, it says that a woman is always judged on appearance, even by other women, perhaps especially by other women:
• If she’s “homely, but smart,” she'll be boring, but talented. Let's applaud!
• If she’s stunning, well, clearly she’s a slut who exploits her looks to make up for a lack of talent and intelligence– because everyone knows a beautiful woman can’t be talented or smart or moral.
An extremely handsome man is far more likely to be recognized as talented and capable, and far less likely to be resented by co-stars.
