Sutekh really captures that comic book quality. I liked him and those funky mummies.

I remember seeing Earthshock as a kid and just sitting there in stunned silence, with the powerfully-done closing credits just driving it all the more home for me.

Watching it as a jaded asshole adult I found myself chuckling at the melodramatic moment, I knew what they were going for but it didn't quite work as intended. I imagine it would've been different had I seen it as a teen in the 80's. I really wish I could've experienced Who as a young'un. I like it now but I don't have the right nostalgia and excitement when Sontarans and Ice Warriors and what not show up in the new series.

See for me, that's the best part. I first discovered DW in 1980, when PBS first started airing the Tom Baker eps. That formed my whole conception of the show and as cheesy as the sets and effects were at the time, it was still a lot of fun. There's a charm to it that nuWho just has captured, IMO, but I do love seeing the classic elements show up, and the various references to the original.

Me, too. It was completely unexpected and had quite an impact on me.

Coincidentally, the weekend this episode airs is the weekend I may actually get to see Peter Davison at a local convention. *squee!*

I still think of Peter as the most tragic of the Doctors. I think he had to most companions on and off. If Baker's was the savant, and Tennant was the adventurer, Peter's fifth doctor was the Gatsby...fitting.

I tend to agree, and that makes the choice for this month's special even more appropriate, I think. I'm really looking forward to seeing this, even more than the season finale next week.

I suspect that we'll see Nicola on the next one, as Peri spent more time with Six than Five, I think (and she still looks damn sharp, IMO).

Well, the only Sixth Doctor serials she wasn't in were the last two of the overall "Trial of a Time Lord" arc, so I doubt they'd show them. It'll probably be something from Six's first season. I think my vote would be for "The Two Doctors." That's probably his best, even aside from the Second Doctor's appearance (it is by Robert Holmes, after all).


I'm watching "Earthshock" now, and there was a scene where the Doctor was giving a long expository monologue rather quickly and urgently, and I realized I was reminded of Jonny Lee Miller's delivery as Sherlock Holmes on Elementary.

It would be quite telling if they use the Valeyard episode of Colin Baker. I think John Hurt is going to turn out to be the Valeyard. They name dropped him right before he appeared.

Which one? He's in all four serials of the "Trial" season. And the one that reveals his true identity is only 2 episodes long, whereas all the ones they're using in these specials are 4-parters.

My vote would be for Vengeance on Varos, easily his best. Two Doctors really drags.

He's a lot more animated than Adric. Nice to see everyone again. I thought Earthshock looked really solid even blown up to 16:9.

Really? I remember it being rather weak, though it's been a long time since I saw it. Of the ones that are appropriate in length, I was going to suggest "Attack of the Cybermen" as the most decent.
