Is there any point in buying The Best of Both Worlds on BluRay?

Is there anything added to the episodes that won't be in both the Season 3 part and Season 4 part? Or is it simply that they have been stuck together, and there's more extras on the disc?

I'm guessing it's just out there for people who don't want to shell out on both seasons 3 and 4. It might have the seamless switch between part 1 and 2 that was in the theaters, but I can't see there being exclusive content that wouldn't be included on the more expensive full seasons.

The set has a few exclusive bonus features (a commentary, a making of documentary) which won't be included on the season sets.

Really? That seems a shameless attempt to double dip. Though I suppose it shouldn't surprise me give that's pretty much what the re-release in Bluray is. The special features should end up on youtube if they're not already there then.

Burnett and Lay only have so much money to spend on the bonus features. Whether that's for paying the interviewees, the recording, the editing, etc., it's on a budget. By creating a separate release, they get a separate budget just for that one episode, allowing them to create bonus material they would not have been able to do for the season set.

Buy it for the special features and BOBW edited into one movie. If you don't care about those things, don't bother.

The deal at Target release week was the best way to go; you ended up paying a sale price for the season set and the BOBW disc ended up only being $5 after the $10 off for buying both.

Oh well, guess y'all missed it. :D

It would have been awesome if the battle scenes from "emissary" were cut in!

I have the blu-ray, it has the seamless switch everybody is talking about, I really think it's worth the money. It is just fun to watch with the seamless and with the additional documentary. I have no regrets buying it

    I said out, dammit!
I got it 'cause I have the whole series on DVD, and I have no intentions of buying it all over again an BD. But I like this ep, so...

I bought and enjoyed watching it but I'm gonna get rid of it. The special features aren't that special (except for the beauty pass shots of the ship graveyard - zomg!!) and I'm planning on getting the full season sets eventually anyway, so this disc will just be an unnecessary extra box on the shelf, messing up the lovely neat collection. Yeah, it matters. :p

It's got a wicked cool twist on the main menu.

For some unknown reason, the music cues at the end of each act have had a rather jarring quick fade mixed in. Yet, on BOBW Part 1 in the season Three box, it's unaltered and sounds as it always has. When season four comes out, I'm going cut my own BOBW "movie" together retaining the original cliffhanger.

The bluray release would be a double dip if they had simply upconverted the entire series. This is the entire series 'rebuilt from the ground up'. I can't consider that a double dip, not when we've never seen the series looking so amazing, and when CBS are putting so much work into restoring the show in a way we thought wouldn't be possible.

The BOBW single disk is a double dip, but the Season releases are not.

Yeah I'm with you on this, the Blu Ray seasons are an excellent addition to my collection, and look fantastic in HD. I probably won't get BOBW just yet until it is cheaper (and that's only for my collection - the minor extras that have been mentioned don't thrill me).

I love that music cue at the end of part one, and unfortunately it's not on this edited together blu ray

If it bothers you that much just watch the season sets instead.

It just seems like it wouldn't have been much work to include the televised end of part one/beginning of part two using seamless branching.

Nah, CBS wants fans to spend the extra cash to buy a separate release. I consider the whole BOBW separate release to be a bonus disc that CBS wants fans to buy.

It's one of the most popular TNG storylines and not everyone will spend the money on season sets. More frugal and less hardcore fans can easily pick up some HD TNG goodness. So, to answer your question: yes, there is a point.

I don't count it as a double dip, but if you are a completist, it least the bonus features are nice. And I love the documentaries on these Blus so far.

If these single releases sell well enough, you may see other sets ("Best of" Themed sets like "Klingons", "Borg, "Time Travel") as was done with the DVDs after the season sets came out of various TV shows.

If the prices are reasonable (like the Target sale on Season 3 and TBOBW set was) I will pick up these "mini-movie" edits. They are also good for loaning out to friends!
But I don't consider them "essential"
