Not surprised half the fan base can't decide if they like it. I like the fact that its different. Simple, yet with a sense of potential brooding.

Anyways: "Star Trek: where no one has gone before" would've been a bit wordy

Nah. Probably something new to this movie.

Honestly, I think we try too hard sometimes to connect every tidbit of news about this movie to some obscure bit of TOS trivia, which isn't really how the movies have ever worked.

Think about it: Khan was really the only time the Trek movies ever referenced a specific old episode in a big way. Most of the time the films were about new characters and threats: V'Gr, The Genesis Device, Carol and David Marcus, Saavik, the whale probe, Gillian Armstrong, etc.

So I'm always skeptical regarding theories that heavily involve Khan, Gary Mitchell, Gary Seven, Trelane, or whomever . . . .

As I've joked before: if this board existed back back in 1978 or so, people would be insisting that Persis Khambatta had to be playing Elaan of Troyius! :)

I actually don't mind the title. I would have preferred, Star Trek into the Darkness, but the title is fine and I know I will get used to it.

Perhaps darkness in this case refers to - absence of moral or spiritual values; "the powers of darkness".

Going to be a rip off (or riff depending on your point of view) on Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness and Apocolypse Now
One of the earlier leaked rumors regarding the themes of the film from ain't it cool (who were first to report the destruction of Vulcan and gyst of the story) was that there will be a black ops star fleet group led by a revived khan (not revived by Enterprise in this timeline) that goes horribly wrong (think they said he had ignited war with Klingons or something) and Kirk is sent ( like Martin sheen in apocolypse) down river (space) to stop him (terminate his command)

    Fits

I didn't read the whole thread but you know... I like it

Fiurst of all they wre trying to title this thing for years. It is probably the hardest title to come up with in the history of sequels. It's not like "The Dark night" where a cool title for a sequel was just waiting for the film makers. Secondly, they didn't want to go with Roman Numerals (TOS films) or colon subtitles (TNG films) so they were so limited and it sounds like they found something that was slightly different and had some punch to it. However, if it was something easy to come up with than no one here would be complaining. Think about that.

I also hope Bones plays a bigger part of the story. I think his words from the first film could be prophetic:

"Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence."

Actually I wouldn't have minded if they used the word "Silence" in the title somewhere....

It's better, more original, and more evocative the The Dark Knight Rises

And that's precisely why your idea is worse. The whole point of the new film franchise is to distance Star Trek from those three clunkers that nearly killed the film series a decade ago.

^ Good point. Making it sound more like the earlier movies kind of defeats the point of rebooting the series.
