Star Trek 2 Has A New Title?

Sounds like some one wanted "Trek Into Darkness" (which sounds better) while someone else wanted to keep "Star Trek" in the title, so we got this hybrid. Which is too bad since TID would have fit nicely with the 3 letter abbreviation tradition :).

Yeah, I'd drop "Star" too, as this novel from 1978 did...

Trek Into Darkness sounds a lot less clunky to me.

And we will all call it.. ITD.

Oh man, ITD really took me by surprise. I thought when they said "darkness" it was going to be GRITTY and REAL but instead it was just a freaking nebula where the lights didn't work!!

It could be much worse, after all, Christopher Nolan simply added "Rises" onto the previous title for the third entry in the Batman series.

I read that Warner told Nolan to either make it 3D or keep Dark Knight in the title (since the last one made $$$$), but who knows if that's true.

Since that sounds completely ridiculous, it's probably true. Typical Hollywood corporate logic, executive meddling and profit ahead of creativity.

To be fair, isn't there a Batman comic called The Dark Knight Returns or something like that? It's not like it doesn't have precedent.

As for the Trek title, it does feel a bit clunky without the colon and a bit ridiculous. It's as if they're trying to take all the marketing talk about the movie being darker and stick it into the title.

Ha! We just hate everything, don't we?

I can't wait to Star Trek into darkness in 2013!

TWOK already broke that tradition.

^ Funny tradition: The Search for Spock also broke it.

re Star Trek Into Darkness, I thought The Empire Strikes Back was a lame title—at first. So....

Still waiting on official conformation, of course.

I reckon it's bullshit.

The REAL title will be glorious, glorious I say!

God, you gotta hope it's bullshit. Three years to come up with a title and this is the best they could come up with? :guffaw:

Probably means Mitchell is the villain, as we would see him spiral out of control as his powers grow.

I'm sure they'll change it...

STID just doesn't feel right for a Trek movie...

even just Star Trek: Darkness would be better than Star Trek into Darkness

M

It doesn't roll off the toungue right. It should be called "Star Trek: Into THE Darkness"

When I first saw the rumored title, I said to myself, "I'm not too sure about it."

A minute later I also said, "It'll grow on me." We just have to give it time. Once we see the first teaser trailer we'll embrace the title.

At the end of the day how much I love the film will have nothing to do with the title.

I do think Star Trek: Darkness is better. Kind of goes with the other one word titles, Insurrection, Nemesis, Generations.
