Eureka: Final Season (Discussion, spoilers, etc.)

Well, at first glance, it appears that the computer programs are coming to life. Holly, Deputy Andy, the Sheriff, Henry, and Lupo were all security programs within the fictional reality at some point, and their living counterparts have now all been replaced.

So everybody left a "copy" of their consciousness in the Matrix? It seems to me that everyone who got out took their brains with them. Only Holly's was left because her body was killed.

And then Wen is in a Matrix somewhere, but that's not exactly clear. I assumed it was her hand reaching out...??

No, I'm referring to the security programs that kept order in the Matrix. They're the ones who appear to be coming alive and taking over for their living counterparts.

Revenge of the NPC's!

Except that Eureka is in Oregon and Storybrooke is in Maine, which puts them on opposite sides of the continent! :)

Then again, Haven and Storybrooke and Collinsport are all in Maine, so that sure sounds like a fanfic waiting to be written!

Forget Salem, Mass. Maine is the world's magical epicenter.

Wasn't The Dead Zone set in Maine as well?

It was based on a Stephen King story, it has to be set in Maine.

Hmm...

How and why? Unless it's Wen behind it...??

But clearly she had left it up to him and she was expecting to be surprised, and he had gotten signals from her that she liked that aspect of him. Obviously, he misjudged and came off as a bit of a doofus (as he always does), but she also came off as shallow and bitchy. His heart was in the right place while she was rude, until the end.

Again, brocoli instead of birthday cake. Sure, she left it up to him, but any reasonable person would assume that he would plan some sort of relaxing honeymoon excursion, not a construction project in the middle of nowhere. That's more than a slight misjudgment, that's insanely bone-headed.

When your significant other says "surprise me," they're usually expecting something they would actually like!

Here's hoping he learns from his mistake in time for their first anniversary. "Surprise, honey! I got you a socket wrench, a diet soda, and round-trip tickets to the Black Hole of Calcutta!"

Perhaps Wen is being downloaded into each body?

Yeah, I don't know what to think, except that the security programs aren't actually conscious, so how can they utilize the computer to escape and be downloaded into bio-robot bodies?

It's not going to be some stupid holodeck-gone-mad thing, is it?

^^ I thought first that it was Wen trying to escape, but that wouldn't explain all the NPCs. It could also be some back-up plan of Beverly's. But the question is, how would either of them know about the body printer, since that's a new invention?

Okay, but if there ISN'T continuity of consciousness, She's still dead. :) There may be a conscious intelligence walking around, but it ain't Holly.

I think of it if it were me. If I die and someone makes a clone copy with a copy of my mind, well, I'M never going to know about it. I'll still be dead. Whatever's walking around may have my memories and looks, and it may make people who knew me happy, but it doesn't do ME any good. :)
Sure, I completely agree with all of that (which is why I would never use a transporter). And it raises all sorts of philosophical and interpersonal issues and story possibilities. I just don't think it's creepy. She's still a person, regardless of her genesis.

Well, that would be stupid. Then it wouldn't be a surprise. :rommie: No, I don't disagree that Carter was a bonehead, but I'm just saying that Allison was just as bad in her own way. SO's (and others for that matter) have given me presents I didn't like or taken me places I didn't want to go or whatever and I didn't bitch and complain about it-- in most cases they never knew I wasn't happy about it, because I was nice enough to lie. :rommie:

I’m not really liking this storyline right at the end of the show. I know. They didn’t know it was the end of the show. But it’s kinda dragging. I don’t know. Glad I didn’t buy any dvds.

I like it fine, assuming it ends well, but it doesn't feel like the end of the show is coming up. All this needs to be wrapped up next episode, because the one after that is the finale. It's going to seem very abrupt.

And it looks like there will be no follow up to the changed timeline, or a return appearance by Doctor Old Spice.

Okay, I'll buy that.
But she ain't "The" Holly. Just "a" Holly. :)

Since Parish lost out to Fargo, but she still seems friendly with him, does that mean she's Parish's buddy, Holly?

^ Four episodes left.

Well crud. I wonder why the season is shorter than the rest?

As for the honeymoon, I have to agree that Alison was pretty reserved. Yes, she was disapointed and told Jack that, but she obviously was trying to give the idea a go and tried to be a good sport. She lasted longer than I would have!

I liked where Jack's heart was at, and it was a sweet gesutre. But not on the honeymoon.

I really like Eureka but they made a big mistake making Holly the focus of this season. The character just isn't interesting enough to justify all the attention they've lavished on her.

The actress has a supposedly huge fanbase.

It was possible that she was going to single handedly guarantee their renewal for season 6.

I've heard that about Felicia Day. I have no problem with her but basing an entire season around has failed creatively and it was a mistake.

The season hasn't been centered on Felicia Day. It's been centered on everyone getting a happy ending. Felicia Day is Fargo's happy ending and saving Felicia Day makes Zane whozis sufficiently heroic to be Jo's happy ending. Holly is a dual-use plot device, not the heroine. Also, the actors get a happy ending to years of hard work when they get to do all sorts of cool riffs on their characters. Colin Ferguson and Joe Morton get to be villains! Etc.

For some years now, Eureka has finished the season with some sort of serialized arc, each season's getting progressively bigger. They've never been as well done as the comic standalones, and this one is no exception. It's just even bigger. The actors are obviously greatly enjoying playing different characters with the same names but it takes its toll on audience interest.
