SPOILERS!!! NEW AICN RUMORS (APRIL 30)

Than you'd be interested to know that Trekmovie.com is backpeddaling[sic] to cover their butts just in case these confirmed spoilers don't work out.

No, they're not. Quite the opposite.

From their very first report onward, of course, they have noted that Paramount will not confirm or deny rumors. That said, Trekmovie's latest report provides further detailed information about casting and corroboration of the "Khan" information. They're doing the opposite of "backpedaling."

Beyond all that comes this from Firstshowing.net:

Now we have confirmation of who the actual villain will be.

TrekMovie and AICN are both saying Cumberbatch will indeed play Khan in Star Trek 2, and while we would normally run this as a rumor given the uncertainty of this claim in the past, our own sources have also heard the same for months now.
This has been called the biggest open secret in Hollywood.

On other topics, belief in the Singularity is the same thing as belief in the Second Coming or the Tribulation - just apocalyptic thinking, couched in different terms. There is no "actual future," only potential turns of events.

So I dont know if this was brought up yet...but if Khan IS in the movie, why is no one mentioning that Ricardo Montalban was not a Sikh...he was Mexican!

RAMA

Since Abrams has pleased the vast majority of long-time Trek fans, changing direction in hopes of satisfying the remaining small minority is neither necessary or advisable.
In other words.....F*** them???????

I wouldn't say that here - it would be considered flaming, at the least.

You thought that was worthwhile? It reads as a fairly typical example of io9's apparent editorial approach to generating "content:" come up with some kind of premise and a headline, then extemporize and represent random opinions as if they're self-evident for a certain number of words - to no particular effect.

I'm not impressed.

btw, I like your .sig, Legion. :techman:

Thank you. Thank Vice President Biden. ;)

Funny, I was watching the Bin Laden recap by Brian Williams on MSNBC last night and Biden said something in his usual vein -- slightly brash and honest. And I thought that's his main advantage... his biggest plus to Obama. He'll say stuff the president -- especially THIS particular president -- wouldn't be caught dead saying. Biden's like a brain-to-mouth filter-less bad cop to Obama's good cop

Here's a headshot roster from a 2007 beauty pageant

"Indian" covers a lot of territory.

True, including the native from Nagaland who looks Korean. Nagaland is an Indian territory. All those far northeastern states have a decided bent toward looking more "Asian" than the rest of India. Even many Bengalis (though I wouldn't call Bengal a far northeastern state - it's still a northeastern state) tend to have higher cheekbones and more almond-shaped eyes than the rest of Indians. But most Bengalis pretty much look like me.

It's really interesting for me to go back to visit. When I was growing up there, I didn't notice any of this. But I notice all the details now when I go back. The country is a veritable cauldron of ethnic mixture.

Those ladies are very pretty. And what do I see? D'Silva? A Portuguese Indian? Indian does cover alot of territory.

Commiserating? He's commiserating? lol.

I really don't know. I have no problem with the casting. I just have trepidations with using "Khan".

Seriously?! Now this I gotta see. Can you link me, pls?

And, yeah, Indian covers a lot of territory. Freida Pinto, btw, is a Goan/Portuguese Indian.

Oh okay. Thanks Legion. So that means Nimoy hasn't filmed his scenes. Or that they're still working on the editing of it.

"Ongoing" is a meaningless term with regard to the TCW. As we see in later episodes like "In a Mirror, Darkly" (Defiant's logs) and "These Are the Voyages", Enterprise is the past of "The Tholian Web" (and TOS) and "The Pegasus" (and all of Next Gen)
I'm not disputing that 'Enterprise' isn't part of the timeline. I was saying that the TCW wasn't a fixed event of the timeline.
You mention the Defiant logs http://www.writtenbymikesussman.com/writtenbymikesussman/ArcherBio1.html

but it makes no mention of the Xindi attack.

Of course they are........even though they confirmed it, just like the other spoilers mentioned....in that same article.

No.

It helps to actually read all the articles, from beginning to end, rather than cherry-picking and grasping at straws.

No matter - it's Khan. Deal with it.

Nope, only a small subcategory who are likely to equate speculated events of the Singularity belong to that group you mention, and almost any group has their own subculture. For most, including a long line of intelligentsia, technologists, futurists, SF writers, AI/robotics researchers, technophilanthropists, economists, and the like, it is very much a possibility, even a certainty. Enough for many to put money where there mouth is and to make it real. The biggest difference from doomsday cults (amongst many) is that there is a long line of very accurate mathematical models, scientific support, and substantiated predictions leading to a very concrete version of possible events. Will computational power lead to a singularity type event, very likely based on current progression of technology, we can even speculate on a date. Will it be machine or man who reaches it first? Open to question. I'm banking on it being us, so to me this is a positive outcome, not a doomsday scenerio.

They're being cautious about the Nimoy rumor. If anything they're doubling down on the Khan reports.

Of course they are........even though they confirmed it, just like the other spoilers mentioned....in that same article.

Hmm, well, they say this at the very end:

But of course, like with the Nimoy report, these reports are still officially rumors as nothing has been confirmed by the studio or anyone associated with the film.

Always an out...

(btw I'm a long time lurker but never post)

Indranee: Later he defined commiserating as feeling bad he can't give any answers to the board. He's hilarious though especially in response to some nasties on that site.

Also I love love that MTV interview quiz. It amuses me tremendously that some commenting on news stories about it genuinely seemed to fall for it. Such a good actor.

Others who have commented that you have never seen Cumberbatch in action, check out his Sherlock this Sunday night on pbs. (And then trust us who've seen other stuff on his range--he is so talented)

Teacake: Although I disagree with your opinion on Cumberbatch I of course respect it but would accept it more if you say you actually forced yourself to watch Sherlock and still maintained your opinion of him. He can come off as funny looking in some still pictures, I admit, but is (for most, but not all) completely captivating and beautiful on screen for some reason.

Check out this picture someone posted taken at an even I actually attended the other night. Ugly? Really?

Satyrquaze: You are way more tolerant and open-minded than I am. I'm ashamed to admit I'm not sure I could maintain a terribly close friendship with anyone who actually thought The Princess Bride was bad.

Nope. Anything unconfirmed is *officially* a rumor. A common disclaimer, means nothing.

Everyone involved knows its Khan, and have for months.

Yeah, he has tremendous screen presence.

so you went to the Q&A in NYC? Cool! How was it?!

"Yeah, he has tremendous screen presence.

so you went to the Q&A in NYC? Cool! How was it?!"

Really fun. Amazing to see first 35 minutes of SIB on big screen and with fans Q&A started out embarassing with the Qs but it got much better. He's so smart and funny.

Got his autograph but unfortunately when I got within a few feet had instantly morphed into an awkward mass of mumbling who couldn't look him in the eye! lol

lol I'm like that with The Nimoy. It's all good. Glad you enjoyed the Q&A. And now I feel doubly bad having already watched Season 2 via dailymotion :p

I'll be DVR-ing it though.

I work for a UK company so through our vpn BBC iplayer thinks I'm in the UK so I watched them several times in January, several times on dailymotion later, now I have the region2 dvd for my global dvd player, I will watch Sunday and most likely even buy the US dvd when it comes out! (Oh, dear, I've outed myself even more as an obsessed Sherlock fan--really am a trek fan too!!) SO I don't feel as guilty about the daily motion. Plus I've been a one-stop PR machine with my friends and family and facebook and chatrooms and whoever will listen, so also perhaps making them some money there. : )
