We all know that Battlestar Galactica takes place in earth distant past. Why don't we make that part of Star Trek universe past
The new Star Trek series could focus on what happened after the event in the 2009 movie where Romulus was destoryed by the supernova. The new TV series would be set in the late 24th century.
We all know that a large part of the Romulan empire is set in the Beta Quadrant which is relatively unexplored by the Federation.
The Romulans survivors could head further into the unexplored reaches of the Beta Quadrant in order to reestablish the Romulan Empire and discover the 12 destoryed colonies of the Colonial Humans there. Unfortunately they also run into the Cylons Humans who attack & capture the Romulans colonial ships and then adapt Star Trek Technology like shields, transporters, replicators etc etc... The Cylons Humans are still religious fanatics even after all these years and after adapting Star Trek technology into their ships, they then proceed against the Humanistic Federation. They intend to destory their mortal enemies, the Earth Humans.
I propose this idea for these reasons
1) BSG and Star Trek do have their own fan base and plus piting religious fanatics Cylons against the secular/humanistic Federation could offer new plots and story lines to be explored. The combined and overlapping fan base could help with the ratings.
2) Since the new villians (cylons) look exactly like humans, this could cut cost in the Make Up budget. Sci fi Shows do cost alot due to CGI, Make Up and Site Design. So cutting cost in the Make Up Budget is a good thing.
3) The Cylons humans seem only interested in Earth humans as they see them as mortal enemies and so we could have certain federation members planets like Benzite and Andoria leaving the federation as the Dominion War had considerbly weakened the federation and they don't want another war. The Vulcans could also leave the federation as they want to help their cousins the Romulans rebuild. The aillance with the klingons falls apart due to internal politics within the empire. So basicailly that leaves the Earth humans, and the few aliens friends they have left, to battle the Cylons humans
4) The Cylons use new type of human clones to inflitrate StarFleet and Cylon robots to battle StarFleet. The Cylons like to use fighters against their enemies like what we saw in BSG. We could have interesting mix of battles involving Aircraft Carrier style operations of the Cylons and Captial Ship operations prefered by the Federation.
What do you Think?
I propose this idea because i really want to see a new Star Trek Series on TV hopefully on a Broadcast Channel or on SyFy Channel in order to reach the widest audience as possible. But BSG is owned by NBC Universal while Star Trek TV franchise is owned by CBS and that could be a problem i guess CBS can buy the BSG franchise from NBC Universal who are not doing anything with it at all.
