Trek Tearjerkers

Alienesse

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I watched "Similitude" again last night and I invariably cry towards the end. It got me thinking about what other Trek episodes/movies have this potential to bring viewers to tears.

For me, the first contestant is Spock's death in TWOK. Then there's "City on the Edge of Forever", "Yesterday's Enterprise", "The Offspring", "Tears of the Prophets" and "Similitude". There probably are many others that I don't remember right now.

What are your Trek tearjerkers?

The scene in The Raven where the child Annika Hansen is dragged from her hiding place by the Borg.

E2 when old T'Pol is talking about Trip.

When the newborn Kirk's father dies in ST:XII, I was just about sobbing the first time I saw that.

When Zarabeth walks away into the blizzard in All Our Yesterdays.

When Miramanee, pregnant with Kirk's child dies in The Paradise Syndrome. This is terribly sad and tragic.

When Dolim murders Degra promising to hunt down and kill his wife and children as he drives the knife into him. The Council. I think that's the most violent and horrifying scene in Trek and it always makes me cry.

When the beautiful Persis is killed in The Augments. It brings me to tears how used she has been by her lover and the man she calls father.

When Elizabeth dies in Terra Prime.

When Jadzia is killed just after she was so happy she and Worf could have a baby in Tears of the Prophets.

I generally agree with everything so far. I'll add:

TNG: Dark Page
TNG: Lower Decks
TSFS - David's death & Enterprise death
TVH - happy ending [tears of joy]
TUC - bittersweet ending

DS9-The Visior (Do I have to explain that one??)
The end of TUC (With that happy/sad ending).
Spock's death in TWOK.

That VOYAGER ep where they find the dead astronaut is at least good for a lump in the throat . . . .

'One Small Step'. Yeah, I am moved by that one, as well. Especially Seven's changing attitudes during the course of the story.

I cried when i realized I'd spent $8 to see Star Trek V :rommie:

On a serious note -

TWOK: The End
"Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human"

TNG:
Family - When Picard breaks down
Sarek - demise of a legend

DS9: The Visitor, The Seige of AR-558 after Nog is injured, WYLB

On the opposite side, one "emotional moment" that did nothing for me was the end of "Nemesis" I guess by that time I was no longer emotionally invested in the TNG crew and Data's fate did not affect me.

TOS "The Empath". When Bones injects Spock with the hypo, so he will be the one to be tortured, not his friend. And later, when a weakened, dying Bones lets out a cough...Spock gives him a supporting shoulder....

DS9 "The Visitor"--the death scene of Old Jake.

Trek XI--Sarek's "You asked me, once...why I married your mother. I married her because I loved her!"

Voyager's Real Life.

:wah:
Yes! That too! Poor doc.

DS9-The Visior (Do I have to explain that one??)
I don't know how I could have forgotten "The Visitor". I could watch it a million times and I'd bawl every single time.

I think the most emotional moments and stories come out of TOS and ENT.
The Dominion arc in DS9 is also heavily dramatic.

I also cry at the end of "Similitude."

I cry when George Kirk sacrifices his life to save the crew and his family from Nero's attack.

I tear up at the end of "This Side of Paradise" when Spock says: "I have little to say about it, captain. Except that for the first time in my life, I was happy."

I've just remembered another one: the whole thing with T'Pol and Trip's baby in "Terra Prime". Heartbreaking stuff!

"Real Life" and "The Visitor" definitely do it for me.

"The Offspring" is probably the one TNG episode that gets me teared up. Todd just gives such a powerful performance.
