Yep. Having everyone tune into the season premiere, expecting to see how the survivors got out of Atlanta, and instead seeing an extended flashback about a character we've never seen before could have been the show's "Not Without My Anus." And, while Stone and Parker more or less ended up getting away with that gag on South Park, I'm not sure a drama series would have.

^^ I think if it was good enough-- which it would have been-- it would have been fine. Especially if it involved backstory on all or most of the characters (one thing I disagree with him a little bit about). I think the show is good enough, like Lost was, to get away with stuff like that. That South Park was a total waste, though.

Indeed. It's not enough to make a lot of money-- one must make obscene amounts of money.

    Cool.
That would maker it easier to write a front half of 8, back end of 8 for the split exercise they are doing this year. Two halves of a bigger season arc should be easier to construct vs what the break this year seems like...which is unnecessary, imo.

Lots of news for a Saturday evening...the scoop on Darabont's original S2 opener.

There's also an in-depth discussion of that always-contentious topic: How Fast Should Zombies Move? :rommie:

Aeon actually already posted an AICN link regarding Darabont's pitch for the season two premiere, which includes a response directly from Darabont himself. It's a really interesting read.

Also, for anyone who may be interested, critic Daniel Fienberg live-blogged TWD's panel at TCA.

13 episodes was already a cable-standard full season. 16 is a departure but not unusual. 25 will never happen.

Did the seasons of Stargate on Sci-Fi channel not have 20 episodes?

Yes, but Sci-Fi would run them in two 10 episode blocks spread out by months. So it was effectively two 10 episode seasons.

Indeed. Sci-Fi Channel has been a bit of an anomaly regarding the length of seasons, and that's primarily due to the way they've aired those seasons. Looking at AMC's record so far, I'd be surprised if they deviate much more than this 3-episode extension, even with their new precedent of splitting seasons in half with this season of TWD.

I just found out that Darryl is going to be at the Full Moon Tattoo and Horror Convention in April here in Nashville. Be curious to see what he charges.
We've had a few of the minor Zombies like the little girl at the gas station, bicycle zombie and one other but he'd be the first big name to be at a local convention from the show.

I've just caught up on this. Started watching it on Netflix around October, and I'm completely hooked now.

The mid-season finale was shocking! I was sure it was going to go the other way. :(

Can't wait for it to come back on. Eeee!

Hah. Fantastic. They should put together a mini-ep. :rommie:

    Well, that means....

...they'll be sticking around the farm for a while...
    ...which is good.

Anyone else notice, those episode summaries are for Episodes 9-13? No mention of Episode 8.

Might that mean, the off-format episode that Darabont was considering as the season opener may in fact be the Mid-Season opener? Or is there already an Episode 8 summary floating around, so it was considered redundant to be on the list?

Why's it good that they're sticking around the farm? Isn't that pretty played-out, story-wise? And if it's to rest up and spend time in the 'oasis' so to speak, we already spent half a season doing that. Small sample size, but we've already spent half the SERIES hanging out down on the farm, time to move on. Would have thought that the end of the fall season would have been a nice breaking point on that issue.
