I need a female volunteer.

What is this shit?

Alright, so I'm making a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. It happens to be a video game. Not a very fancy one, mind you. But one of the things in it is a talking cat. Problem: I need a voice for the cat. (I already have the actual cat part covered.)

Then what do I do?

I need a female volunteer to voice some lines. It's not a whole bunch. You could probably do it in 15 minutes if you were in a hurry. Half hour, tops.

I'll give you the lines to read. Each set of lines has a corresponding number. Preferably, you would make MP3 files numbered accordingly, to make things easier for me.

So, for the line marked with #15, you'd voice it and save it as "15.mp3". And then you would send them to me, via email or uploaded somewheres.

If you do not know how to do these things, I can help you via PM or something.

Why a female voice?

I dunno, I just had it in my head that the cat is a girl. Don't argue.

The lines are in English. It's okay if English is not your first language. An interesting accent might be fun. The lines aren't very complicated.

What's in it for me?

And now we come to it.

I could give you a copy of Dungeon Defenders via Steam. Or some other thing you want off of Steam. Or you could settle for my undying gratitude. Isn't that worth a lot more?

I don't think I ask for much around here. I would appreciate anyone willing to do this for me! It's not commercially-motivated so it's not like I can actually pay you. It's the thought that counts, eh?!

Reply and/or PM if interested. Thank you all. Especially the guys who bothered opening this thread because they expected me to have a racy proposition in store.

I'm really self-conscious about my voice so I'd rather not, but I'll do it if you can't find anyone else. For free, obviously!

Your voice is just fine, Kestra! But I will see if anyone else wants to do it first. :)

I'm game, if you can picture your cat with a slightly nasal, deeper than the average female voice. It sounds like fun.

And, yes, I'm probably going to need some help.

Maxwell...if you'd like I can effect it for you.*

*providing you get it to me before Friday

No worries. I might have all the volunteers do a "sample" and see whose voice I like best. Although if I don't pick someone's voice, it doesn't mean there's a problem with it! It's just that I have to pick one!

What sort of character do you want your cat to have?

If you want a stand-offish British cat, I'll throw my name into the mix. I can't do sultry though.

Not sultry. More smart-alecky, spirited, and a bit condescending.

I think this line adequately sums up its attitude:

[Stern and serious] "Here's what you're going to do. That hatch next to the bed? Go down it. Follow the tunnel. You'll come out near a bridge. Cross it. You'll end up in a village. Wait there. Things will happen."

Guess I can put tone notes with each line, so it's clear what I'm looking for. :p

Anyone who'd like to try, record the line above and shoot me an MP3 of it. I would suggest a file hosting service like Mediafire or Dropbox. You can PM me the link to the file from there. :) (PM me anyway if you are having issues.)

If you need a program to record MP3s with, try this one: http://www.mp3mymp3.com/

Note that when it prompts you to accept or decline, select "decline." This will keep it from installing some crap you don't want. (This program was the simplest record-to-MP3 program I found that doesn't require installing anything else. If you want to use another program, that's fine.)

I can do a Monty Python-esque old woman falsetto. Will that do?

I'm intrigued. Send me your sample!

I would, but I don't actually have a microphone for my computer, so I'm afraid you'll have to do without.

Well goddammit! Thanks anyway. :p

Hmmm...I can be smart-alecky and spirited, but I think my slight lisp and girlish voice make it difficult for me to sound condescending.

Well, you could give it a try, and I'll let you know if I think it works or not. :)

Some more example lines:

39. [Annoyed] "Such manners. Stay here and wait for something big and scary to eat you. See if I care!"

40. [Annoyed] "Yes, just like that! Were you expecting something overly complicated and labyrinthine? We don't have the budget for that here."

42. [Sarcastic] "Wow, we're dealing with a real MIND here. Sorry I didn't answer the door. I'm somewhat lacking in the appropriate appendages to manipulate doorknobs."

I hope that gives you a better feel for the character. :)
