Star Trek XII New Information Thread

the final film in the nuTrilogy

Is "they're required to go away after three no matter how much $$$ they make" going to be this year's version of "JJ has promised millions of times it won't be a reboot"?

Not sure what you're getting at here; if you're criticizing my belief that this will be a "trilogy", I'm only saying that because I was fairly sure all the actors had only been signed for three movies, and it just seems more likely that this particular iteration of Trek would be "three and done", and then we'd see something back on TV (where Trek belongs, but that's for another thread....).

The basis of my post was that I felt they should have nailed these three movies in a fairly short period of time, getting all the actors while they're still young enough to play the parts, then use the momentum to move Trek in other directions.

Once the Movie Hype Machine kicks in late next year, everyone will know there's a new Trek coming out and be frequently reminded of how good and successful the last one was. I'm not worried about the long wait negatively impacting the film's performence.

But the wait would be a lot easier for this fan if they would release those four nuTrek novels that were written and then cancelled two years ago.

In addition to those four novels, I'd buy an "extended home video version" of the movie on Bluray in a heartbeat.

Way to keep the momentum going on a franchise, Paramount. By the time the third movie is done we'll have aged almost a decade since the first flick.

While I'm bummed that it'll be 2013, I'm okay with that. As long as the movie's good, who cares? The publicity thing gets annoying. I'm tired of everything having to be rushed because people have been trained to have short attention spans. Star Trek has endured over 40 years of being on people's minds. And judging by many of the posters on this forum, myself included, who became interested in Stark Trek after the '09 film, the whole argument about wanning public interest is bunk.

Hollywood knows how to ramp up buzz for big budget movies. I imagine there will be some kind of teaser trailer for it at next year's Comic Con. Plus, if the movie is good, that alone with generate buzz. Didn't '09 stay pretty close to the top of the movie charts for several weeks back when it was released?

They need to give us something else. I don't see why we can't get a low-budget, made for TV movie with some old cast people. How about a 15 minute short? Something.

Re: possible spoiler of character

Way to jump to conclusions... maybe it was T'Pau or T'Pol... maybe it was the Romulan Commander... and even if the picture was of Nu!T'Pring, she was a great character with her own agenda. . .we don't know if she and Spock were bonded in the new universe, and she never WANTED Spock for himself in the old one, so why would that change?

T'Pau as the leader of the Vulcan people would be interesting. If its T'Pring, though. Her presence would mean what was suggested by cast and crew during the promotional interviews, that Spock and Uhura's relationship take on a larger role in the sequel, is being acted on. T'Pring could be a challenger to Spock's.. uhm, throne.
Some resistant fans should get used to the fact that Spock and Uhura's relationship will continue. Facing a T'Pring threat is a possibility. She treated him shabbily in TOS, why not reverse it. It was all but stated that the next film would continue and develop relationships.

Some other resistant fans should give up the idea of Khan being in the next movie. If he was, the Klingons would have captured and destroyed that ship because of the Augment virus, especially after having dealt with the Romulans right after the Kelvin incident. They'd also be trying to capture any Vulcan who went astray.....looking for Nero's Spock.

The jungle planet could quite possibly be a Tarsus IV set, since Shatner indicated in one of his books that that eco-terrorists were responsible for the blight suffered. Or, it's quite possible that it could be Qo'noS, the Klingon homeworld. I've read some fics that describe the jungles as being quite dense. I'm inclined to believe this, because I do believe that the Klingons will be villains in the next movie.

But would she talk in her silly accent from "Amok Time", or normally as she did in Enterprise's season 4 Vulcan arc? FANS WILL BE FURIOUS EITHER WAY!:rommie:

EXCL: Michael Giacchino Will Return for Star Trek Sequel

Source: Silas Lesnick , Deadline
November 23, 2011

Though it comes as no surprise given his frequent teaming with director J.J. Abrams, fans should be pleased to learn that Academy Award winning composer Michael Giacchino will officially be returning for the as-of-yet-untitled Star Trek sequel.

"Yes, I'll be back," Giacchino told ComingSoon.net last night at a home video release event for the duo's last collaboration, Super 8. "I'll be there just as soon as they finish it."

In the meantime, Giacchino will be providing the score for the Abrams-produced Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (arriving on IMAX screens December 16th and going wide on December 21st) and Andrew Stanton's live-action debut, John Carter (hitting theaters in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on March 9, 2012).

Though he provided the score for 2009's Star Trek, fans shouldn't necessarily expect more of the same. Giacchino points to the differences between his scores for Mission: Impossible 3 and Ghost Protocol as an example of how he likes to treat sequels like altogether new projects. That said, he's not sure at this stage what direction the Trek sequel will take.

"Right now I'm not looking at anything," he laughed of his overloaded scheduled this past year. "I'm just going to go into my closet and shut the door for months."

does everything have to be in 3-d. :scream::scream::scream:

I mean it's okay for some of the films to 3-d if it's called for by why do they have to make this new one 3-D. :klingon::klingon:

No.

To find the answer to that--to see whether it'll be used creatively and toward a specific end, or just as a visual gimmick--you'll have to wait and see, the same as everyone else will.

Meanwhile, don't scream and grimace so much... and mind your punctuation, 'K? :)
