By the way, did anyone else think it was queer when the Doctor bit into the apple? Didn't he rather explosively expel the bit of apple he sampled in "The Eleventh Hour", or did Amelia's carved smiley face get him to like the fruit again?

Also ... right at the beginning after the credits when he was so excited, did he say, "Amy ... Mickey ... this could be the most exciting thing I've ever seen!"? Or did he call Rory "Binkie"?

With all do respect Mr Gatiss, THAT is how you do scary. If Night Terrors had gone with more slightly wierd imagery and camer aangles, it would have been a lot more effective.

I thought the lighting and atmosphere of Night Terrors was more unsettling myself. I think this one would've benefitted from having less cliche terrors. I actually laughed when the angels appeared which is probably not the desired reaction.

I think he said 'Beakie'. Another nose joke. :)

Ah! Of course, what could be more obvious than Rory's nose?

His other companions Bucky, Blacky and Fatty also enjoyed the Doctor's nicknames.

Like others, the first half was a bit slow, but the second half I enjoyed a lot more. I let out a little squeal when we got a glimpse of little Amy, sitting on her case. I thought the CGI reveal of the hotel folding into a holodeck type environment was well done, though an explanation of why it was a hotel in the first place would have been good (unless there was one and I missed it? Need to watch it again).

The goodbye to Amy and Rory was very unexpected, and very nicely done, however I'm sure nobody has any doubt that we'll see them again in episode 13 (or even at the end of episode 12).

Looking forward to next week.

So he gave them a new car and a new house. Why a new house? Their house from the first episode seemed quite nice.
Maybe he has doubts about the earning potential of a nurse and a strippogram. Maybe he's trying to score brownie points with River in some oblique way. Maybe he feels guilty about the effect he's had on their lives. More than likely, though, it's simple generosity of spirit and the fact that they have a unique friendship. He wants them to do well in their lives. Without the burden of rent or mortgage, Amy would be freer to pursue an academic career, plausible given that Older Amy designed her own version of a sonic screwdriver.

But then, since it didn't affect him, maybe it wasn't even his room. No, that's stupid, they made a big deal out of it. I expect they'll come back to it later.

It was his room.

On Confidential they said they wanted it deliberately vague so the fans would debate for years about what was in it!

That episode was an improvement over last week's, which was an improvement over the week before's. Big improvement, great ep.

Minotaur was creepy, the 'praise him' thing was creepy, and then thee whole thing took off. It was great. I'll have to watch it again to really grasp it, but hell yeah, we should have had more eps like that through the season.

The explanation was it changed with the fears of the people it brought aboard, but then it errored and stopped cleaning up after itself, so just began adding new rooms to the hotel rather than creating new environments.

First episode I've really enjoyed in this half of the series. I know she'll be back in the finale but I hope that is Amy really gone from the series.

I hope they don't bring her back just to end her story badly instead of pleasantly. I can totally see that happening though.

Of the last three this is definitely the one that I enjoyed the most, but I didn't love any of them. Kudos for using a classic series monster.

I'm sure Amy and Rory will be back for at least Episode 13, but I hope that'll be it for them. Not because I dislike them (they're probably both in my top three favorite nuWho companions, along with Donna), but just because it feels like their story is coming to a close and we don't really need to see them anymore (except for the occasional special appearance).

IO9 has a thoughtful review of the episode here.
Wonderful review. Interesting thought about The Silence manipulating Rory's and Amy's minds in regards to the end of "The Girl Who Waited." Also I'm intrigued by the reviewer's thoughts about breaking down The Doctor and the myth of The Doctor throughout this season, and hopefully it gives to some credence towards the fan theory that The Doctor will go "undercover" after escaping death in Utah.

Actually, they didn't. They used a distant cousin of a classic series monster, much like the Ood's relation to the Sensorites.

I completely agree. I love the uniqueness of their relationship with The Doctor (i.e. a married couple as companions) and Rory is seriously challenging Donna as my favorite new series companion, but this episode brought great closure for them. Hopefully the news releases of them returning next season is misdirection (or they're just appearing in a guest capacity).

I love The Wrath of Kahn for how it reflects upon the topic of life and death with little hints and references scattered throughout the movie.

Its the same reason why I love The God Complex too. The topic is about how the Doctor screws up all his companions. And right from the start we have Lucy, a metaphor for "Amy the Kissogram" in The Eleventh Hour, in a police uniform dying before the opening sequence starts up. Then we meet Rita the potential companion. She dies too. Even the hotel/holodeck itself is a metaphor for The Doctor's TARDIS - glitches causing it to be always stuck as an 80's hotel just like how the TARDIS is stuck as a blue police box. Not only that, the hotel is also a metaphor for the Doctor's life in an endless maze.

5 stars.
