I don't think you need to be a "core" gamer to have heard of, and probably played, Portal.

I'm not talking about titles, I'm talking about the Steam service.

And I'm just saying that people who have played games which require Steam will obviously know what Steam is, at least to a limited extent.

Portal doesn't require Steam, you know the Orange Box was sold as boxed software for years prior to Steam's existence, right?

If it's available on the Mac outside of Steam, I haven't found it yet. I do know it was available on Windows pre-Steam.

Ah okay. I still don't think that gives us a clear picture of how many Mac users are aware of what the Steam service is or that it even exists. You'd really need to do some polling of Mac owners generally to find out. I suppose someone may have done the market research already and have statistics available for a fee.
