DC to REBOOT???

I don't think Batgirl was filler. The whole "The Lesson" arc was building to those final issues (although, as was later revealed, the last three or four issues were rushed).

Then again, what is considered "filler"? If the characters are not in some big epic struggle, the issues are filler? I can't agree with that.

I remember Geoff Johns lightly lashing out against fans bitching about so-called filler issues during his Flash run where there were two rogue profile issues. If I remember correctly, he basically something like if the issues are interesting, then who cares?

And Bush Jr was president when he debuted. I wonder what Bill Clinton was doing at his funeral then?

Trying to stay relevant?

Soooo.... in the "five years" of the reNuDCU they've gone with ALL of those Titans? Like Batman has gone through 14 Robins?

It's like the attrition rate at McDonald's...

I think they should've just said, this is a reboot. Some stuff might be carried over. You'll have to read and find out.

All this equivocating will bite them in the ass later.

Y'know, DC has been getting a lot of shit for this, but, frankly, comic book fans really need to give it a rest.

Lets take a look at Marvel. How much time has passed since the beginning of Amazing Fantasy 15 or Fantastic Four 1? five to ten years, at most? According to Bendis, the Ultimate line has only progressed about two years since the start of Ultimate Spider-Man. Look at how much stuff happened during that time with all the insane events, character growths, deaths, back-from-deaths, etc.

Point is: none of it could have realistically happened no matter how you might try to piece it together. It can't. Don't try. DC clearly gave the five year mark to give their characters some history, but with them still being new-ish.

Just don't think about it and it doesn't become an issue. Most of the books probably won't even acknowledge it anyway. It is the continuity obsessed folks who keep needlessly agonizing over it. Besides, within a year or so, after the 52 titles have at least 52 different crises that nearly destroy the Earth, the five year backstory won't even matter.

Just my two cents.

^ Interesting. He wasn't President during New Krypton so this must have been a recent change lol. DC even did their own Election Book during the 08 Federal Election. I don't know why I can't think of the dude's name.

If we are thinking of the same issues (the one where Doomsday attacked), I think that was meant to be a poorly drawn Bush as I think he was still in office at that point. If I remember correctly, they wrote him in the overly friendly manner Bush has.

Emphasis mine. I actually AGREE with you. It's every time they come out and SAY something that I think draws attention to the issue.

I think if DC would just say, "wait and see, you'll understand." No more, no less. If anything, it would encourage people to buy to find out.

I think every time they say, "well this, this, and this happened" they'll get nerdy fanboys going, "How is that possible?"

I guess my point is, every time they interact with a fanboy it's causing trouble. Like a crazy ex-girlfriend, it's best not to answer the phone, because NOTHING good will come of it.

I personally hated the Luthor arc in Action(in the minority I admit)
Yes. Yes you are. Purge the infidel!

Actually, I guess I can sort of see how it might not be to some folks' taste. I'm only halfway through 'cause I'm the perfidious trade-waiter you've been hearing about, but it's kind of just Luthor dicking around with the hottest sex robot in comics on a vague quest directly tied into a story and franchise that I hate. Still, it's an entertaining dicking around with the hottest sex robot in comics on a vague quest tied directly into a story and franchise I hate.

Indeed. Good comics doesn't mean the universe is being destroyed.

That's the attitude that has, frankly, demolished comic book storytelling over the past five to ten years. "It doesn't couuuunt!" Yeah, saving the universe stops counting when there's never a break from it. When you lack the connective tissue, the emotional connective tissue, nothing matters, in any story. No one cared about the guy in 2012, and he was John Cusack--we're genetically programmed to care about John Cusack. It follows that one cannot care about a drawing unless you make them.

And seriously, for all I know, all those Bendis Doonsebury comics are actually really good.

Part of the problem is that the fans keep asking them about it. The whole five years was probably just a general statement, not meant to be taken overly seriously. However, message boards and comic news outlets have latched onto that in the continuing self-defeating quest for continuity.

Along those lines, could you imagine the undue hate they would get if they got even more vague with interviews and conventions? Just look at this thread. I think we are all pretty mild here and are just waiting to see what will happen, but many have expressed several concerns and desires for DC to just reveal how its all going to work already.

I would argue that Fanboy Town is at least 100X more intense, and I would up them 100x more if DC released less information then they already have and forced fans to wait it out.

^ That's exactly it. They can't win. They throw a bone to the continuity obsessives, and they got crucified for it.

I looked it up...Martin Suarez was elected President of the United States in the DC Universe during their Election 08 special and has been US President until I guess recently if Obama has been shoehorned in or retconned as the new President. George W. Bush was not President in the DCU following Lex Luthor's and Pete Ross's terms in office. There was someone else in office the last bit of Luthor's term when Ross resigned.

To be a "continuity obsessive" about superhero comics is a sad and lonely thing...

Actually, after fifty-odd years of reading these things remembering the twenty-eleven different versions of everyone and everything is half the fun. I'm delighted that Byrne's Man Of Steel is so different from the character of the Wayne Boring era when I first started reading comics and I love both of them without any desire to "explain" the differences.

As always, well said.

I've cured myself of continuity obsession disorder (COD). Entertaining stories are more important. When a reboot comes along, I'm not going to worry about the "fate" of previous storylines. Move forward.

At some level, you have to say to yourself "I'm XX years old and reading comics about superhereos" and not think too much about it.

To be "obsessive" about anything is a sad and lonely thing...

Fixed that for you. :techman:

Not just limited to comics. Sports, quilting, stamp collecting, shows about future people in spaceships, facebook, whatever....obsessing over the minutia of detail in any of these things is pathetic.

One need only look at the various forums here to find a plethora of examples of obsessing over irrelevant crap from category 5.

Don't understand it myself, but there it is.

No no no. It is perfectly fine to obsess about sports. When you paint your body the colors of your favorite team and attend their games shirtless while rattling off random statistics of every player on the team and how they rank against other team's players and challenge others to fights when they disagree with you, it is considered normal behavior. Anyone who thinks otherwise is probably a momma's boy who can't dress themselves.

They aren't the one going shirtess in public though. :shifty:

Just a heads up I got one of my books in the mail from DC and I see that a lot of the new titles are now available for subscription direct from DC. It's great if you only want to read one or two books a month and don't live near a comic shop like myself and don't mind getting your books a little later after the release date.

^ I assume it's Justice League #1 that is shipping to you already since it's the first book out of the shoot in a couple weeks.
