I just got myself a PS3 on Friday, and have spent the past two days hooked on Uncharted; my little brother did convince me to start Ninja Gaiden Sigma (I was only wanting to play one game at a time) earlier this afternoon, but Uncharted is the game I'm more than likely going to be spending the most time with for the foresseable future.

I'm really enjoying the game's design, gameplay, and storyline, and can definitely see why it was recommended as a 'must-have' starter game for the system and why it garnered the critical praise that it did/has.

The only thing that's a pain is having to have multiple machines hooked up (or, rather, climbing behind the set and changing the cables). I'm considering buying a first-generation PS3 as there are some available, but will they play the newest games?

That's good to hear. Once again referring to the fine print I was looking at a couple games that seemed to suggest you needed to be hooked up to the net to play them. (Again I know you do need it, obviously, for multiplayer and I assume there's probably a Warcraft-like game out there that's played over the PSN. But for LA Noir and that new Tomb Raider I'd like to be able to play "free as a bird" as it were. (I also hear rumor that GTA V might be a redo of San Andreas, which I just have to see based on how GTA IV reimagined Liberty City. The release of nuTomb Raider or GTA V will probably be what gets me to shell out for the PS3. Probably a week before Sony announces the PS4, of course! ;)

    Yes, they will.

I wouldn't advise going for an early PS3 model though. They are loud and generally lest stable (also they've generally run out of warranty by now) than current models. They also have significantly less hard drive space.

I'd recommend using a recent model PS2 and PS3. There are relatively cheap and highly comfortable technical solutions for switching between video input devices without climbing behind your TV set ;)
Well, without online connectivity you are going to miss out on certain features, such as optional downloadable content or online leaderbords and the like.

You'll have no problems regarding actually playing the games' singleplayer components though :techman: Remember, a significant portion of current generation consoles isn't hooked up to the internet (yet). Publishers and developers are well aware of that!

My brother bought Medal of Honor for Xbox on the cheap, and he let me borrow it. It's not bad. I'm enjoying the campaign, but the game plays similar to Battlefield (no surprise, considering DICE's involvement), which to me isn't as smooth or as fast as Call of Duty's gameplay (at least in Infinity Ward's entries, anyway).

That certainly fits the first-hand accounts of MoH's gameplay I've heard so far.

I'm still not convinced it's worth the purchase, maybe I'll check it out once the price hits rock-bottom in the UK

Yeah, I'd say it's worth a rental or a $10 (or whatever your equivalent is over there) purchase. It's not a bad game at all, it just suffers from being an obvious Modern Warfare clone and from having clunky gameplay.

    Might and Magic III.

I've never played an M&M game before, but I decided to skip the first two and go for the more modern third entry. It's definitely outside my comfort zone, but it's a pretty fun game so far. If only my Sorcerer and Cleric would stop dying in one hit I'd be all set.

    I played:

*Fallout 3 (Got to the part with the large scorpion, had low ammo...and had to quit)

*Killzone 2 and 3...passed both. Looking forward to Killzone 4.

    Yeah, that's what I figured. ($10 being about 6.5 GBP.) ;)

I'm a few hours into Crysis 2. I thought I would be decent on normal mode, but the enemy AI is crazy accurate at times. I'll be a hundred feet away on a rooftop and peek over cover for a few seconds, and all of a sudden bullets are streaming towards me. Of course, it's balanced by occasionally dumb AI where a soldier runs continuously into a wall or throws a grenade into his own feet.

I haven't played anything for a week now - it's like I'm sick or in love or something.

In the past week I've finished my second play through of Arkham Asylum (just as awesome the second time around) and decided to hook my PS2 back up and started Final Fantasy XII. I've only finished a handfull of RPGs and they were more action RPGs not turned based. I've played all of the standard RPG FF games from VIII to XII, Dragon Age: Origins, the two main Kingdom Hearts, and Mass Effect 2 and of those the only ones I've finished are the KH games and ME2. I'm determined to finish FFXII and in the next DA:O and I will finish it this time. I've restarted it (DA:O) twice, the first time I got distracted by other games, and the second time I got stuck on the boss battle in the Dwarves' caves.
