CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till release

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Something that occurred to me watching the commercial yesterday -- how did they not manage to release this on July 4th??? Seems like a no-brainer to me...

I thought about that too. July 4 isn't really a good movie weekend if I recall correctly. Otherwise, yeah, it would have made entirely too much sense.

Love the newest trailer, but it does look VERY geeky and comic booky. In fact the style and period setting reminds me an awful lot of a Rocketeer or Shadow or LXG-- all movies which didn't exactly have a broad audience appeal...

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Serenity did pretty well didn't it?
Not really. According to BoxOfficeMojo, Serenity had a production budget of $39 Million, which was about the same as its total worldwide box office take.

Yeah, it wasn't even close to doing well. With worldwide grosses about half a million short of the film's production budget, which doesn't include the costs of prints and advertising, nor factor in the significant cut (40-50% for domestic grosses, 60% for non-domestic grosses) exhibitors take from that, it probably still hasn't broken even, even accounting for home video and television sales.

Cowboys and Aliens looks like a lot of fun, but I have a bad vibe about that one's general success too...
I can see that too. It's definitely a very niche kind of thing, I'm glad it at least has some fairly big names involved. Hopefully that'll be enough to bring some people into the theaters.

Yep, people in those three countries have particularly strong anti-U.S. sentiments. Evidently France was not considered a problem.

Eh...they just asked again and the French surrendered.

Yeah, like that joke never gets old. No wonder they love us.

At least they can boast of having had the good sense not to follow us into Iraq.

Yeah, no kidding. One of the better examples of cultural groupthink in recent memory.

Ironically, early in Brubaker's run on Cap he has a scene where Steve Rogers basically explains how stupid that particular meme actually is.

Oh, and the United States and France have been allies for as long as the nation has existed, including militarily against the English during the war for independence

You forgot to mention Jerry Lewis.

They pretty much have to if they want the movie to make any profit whatsoever.
And to be honest, I expect the movie to bomb in Germany (pun intended just to serve the cliché and get that out of the way) because they're gonna keep the title over here.

I mean...we're not Americans. Why should we give a damn about a dude who dresses himself with the american flag?

When confronted with on-the-nose american patriotism, most people here just roll their eyes in slight anoyance and get on with whatever they were doing. It certainly won't attract any viewers.

^^^^
I think it's fair to say it will not do the type of international numbers THOR did.

I know I did not care one bit about the Brits latest Royal Wedding. That's about as close to a type of national pride "on the nose" event I can think of and I can't ever recall the last time Germany had something globally to promote or did. Fictional or otherwise.

I do like Alpha Flight thought. :)

Oh, please. Don't take things so damn seriously.

I'm not taking anything seriously. OTOH, if you posted "Q: Why did the chicken cross the road? A: To get to the other side," would you expect people to respond with :guffaw: :guffaw: ?

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I recall hearing that the scene at the end of Superman 2 where he flies the flag back to the roof of the White House got booed often overseas...

..but it isn't like most Americans would ever watch a foreign film outside a martial-arts extravaganza anyhow, so handsome is as handsome does, I figure.

The biggest cheers in many showings of Independence Day were when the aliens blew up the White House.;)

That shot in the trailer got cheers even here in the USA, and I saw that trailer in a theater in a rather right-wing patriotic part of the country. Even if you love America, sometimes its just entertaining to poke fun at the government.:)

Yea, but, Bill Clinton was the President at the time ;)

It's just their good luck that no one involved had the bright idea "If we're gonna fry New York let's show the Twin Towers getting blowed up bigtime!" Would have been tres awkward later.
