Sierra with my other cat Lilly (the smaller one on the right), who we adopted from a shelter. She's 1 & 1/2.

Wow, how recently did you adopt the new one? I'm stunned, but happy, to see two rescue cats acclimating so quickly to one another.

(Our two cats are rescues, too; my wife got the female in late 2003 and the male in early 2005; they generally avoid each other outside of occasional episodes of snuggling together on the bed.)

We got Sierra in mid-May. We kept her upstairs closed in a room for the first week so the two cats could smell each other under the door. The second week we left the door open and Sierra would venture out down the stairs but then run back up if she saw Lilly. Lilly would hiss at her from the bottom of the stairs or the door to the room.

For the next couple weeks Sierra would come down and stake out various parts of the living room as her own, and the two of them would hiss at each other from across the room. After that they fought each other a bit and eventually settled on which areas belonged to each of them.

Now they still playfight and chase each other back and forth (all night long sometimes!), but it's friendly and keeps them in shape. Sierra has taken on a sort of motherly role where she'll lick the living hell out of Lilly and Lilly sometimes looks like she doesn't dig it, but she just sits there and puts up with it.

They're pretty good about sharing toys and places to sleep now, and they'll even eat out of each other's bowls occasionally. Sierra gets jealous if you give Lilly too much love and she'll come over and bump Lilly out of the way, which is hilarious.

^I think text looks beautiful on skin. Though I'm not fond of the most popular text -- one's name (or a loved-one's name) in script. Everybody and their cousin has that.
You are a women of exquisite taste.

Also, I wish I had your guts to get a tattoo. I'm a sissy boy. :shifty:

You'd seem weird with a tattoo.

Weirder than normal? :p. I think you should get one, Iguana. I've been working off and on on a painting of a man with the mathematical formulation of the standard model on his back. That'd be a sweet tatt.

I've never thought of getting a tattoo, except now I have this idea for one that goes around my bicep in the shape of a sound wave of one of my favorite songs or at least the melody.

That'd be cool. Very original too. Though unfortunately it seems that with tattoos, if you've thought of it so has someone else. I've wanted the bubble chamber tattoo for a long time, and one day I was googling images of bubble chambers and I found a couple of dudes with bubble chamber tatts. I think I mentioned here and someone even stole the idea! Alas!

We had our family 4th of July get-together today. We went over to my cousin's house. We all had fun, and I took a whole bunch of pictures, but my favorites are the ones of my niece, nephew, and sweet little cousins.

So firstly, a picture of their deck. I post this because my cousin is so proud of it. He built it all himself. Of course, I expect it to look good; he's a master carpenter (but he's only a few years older than me!). Anyhoo, here's the first picture:

Here's the fire pit, where the kids eventually toasted marshmallows:

This is my niece (the one who calls me "Uncle Johnnyboy"). We had only been here a few moments, and she was determined to get into a little mischief. :D

Here she is waiting for me to push her on the swing. I love her little pigtails.

My brand new nephew plotting world domination from atop his seat of power. ;)

Later on that evening, we all got together on the deck as the fireworks started. My cousin (left - who, coincidentally, also calls me "Uncle Johnnyboy", but I don't mind ;) ) and my niece (right) being adorably silly for the camera:

And a few fireworks images (I took these to test out the night shot on my camera. I think they came out okay):

Well it would be original based on the song that I picked. :p

There are very few original tattoo ideas probably. My friend was a pretty original one though on his side: it is of crosses sugar cane and has the motto of the El Salvadoran town on a scroll beneath it that he served at in the Peace Corps. Probably only one of those!

I've never been fussed about the originality of my tattoos: two of them feature the same chapbook design; it's just the colouring and arrangement that I gave to them which is original. It's more important that I enjoy them and they look nice.

That is awesome. :)

Our two barely tolerate each other:

Spike (the male) has developed a new habit ... he'll walk over to Cherry, start licking her head, and then he starts gnawing on it. And she doesn't care.

My wife and I went to the Cayman Islands for our honeymoon back in 2007 and stayed at a really great hotel. It was a little older and a little rough around the edges but the staff were great and it was in a great location. It was isolated from the busier Seven Mile Beach area and they had their own dive shop where you could go diving from onsite.

We also met a lot couples who had been going there for years. One couple in particular had been going there so long that when they first started going their children where just babies and by 2007 the whole family was going there to Scuba dive.

Anyway, we happened to go stay at this hotel during its last week of operation. We were actually moved to another hotel for our last couple of days on the Island. Supposedly they were going to redevelop the site as a more upscale hotel.

Yesterday I decided to look it up to see if it had reopened and came across a review on yahoo by a former guest and frequent traveler to the Cayman Islands who reported that the site was still closed and instead of being redeveloped looked like a derelict site. He provided an email address for anyone wanting to contact him about it so I fired an email off to him and he sent me some pictures of what it looks like now.

This is what it looked like when my wife and I were there in 2007:

So sad. :(

^Nature can be a real mother...Couple of years back I rambled around this derelict resort, which had been hit by one of the big hurricanes in mid-late Nineties. Amazingly (or perhaps not), it's still waiting re-development. Which is a real shame as bay is beautiful and has good surf...
