STAR WARS PREQUELS - a love/hate relationship

I believe that the main problem is this:

Loudly declaring that you LIKE something is seen as positive and life-affirming, and lifts everyone up.

However, loudly declaring that you HATE something is seen as an insult and implicit threat to all those who like the thing that you just said you hate. This is because hatred is inherently poisonous and violent.

And about being shouted down: If those who actively control (moderate) a forum, or even the entire board, have an opinion that you do not, that is a very real problem...

But publicly declaring that you hate something should not be taken personally and that is where the problem lies.

ie: I hate this certain something that you like. That doesn't mean that I hate you. Yet it is taken personally, so the issue is not with the person hating the item, but with the person liking it. They can not separate themselves from the item they like so by you hating the item, they feel you are hating them as well...and so they become defensive.

As a professional troll, all I do is toss the bone. It's the dogs that fight over it...and I sit back an enjoy the show, especially over something as lame as BSG.

You might not want to keep using this line. The moderators around here don't take kindly to trolls. Especially ones who like to stroll in and admit it.

Of course, but I'm not adamant about that. I am "professional" only in the sense that I dont fall victim to the bully tactics of those that like to cut you down on the forums. I am however well versed in taking such people and have them writhe in their own arrogance.
Usually they tend to self destruct after awhile and boo-hoo to the moderators because I made them look bad. When in actuality, they did it to themselves. Hopefully the mods here have a brain in their heads and can see the difference. Just because you dont like what you see in my mirror doesn't mean the mirror is broken.

One other thing..I dont take online BS personally. So flame away, it only entertains me more and more. :p

Just to clarify here, I do not have any religious fervor for these films or any other. Just once in a while it might be nice to discuss them on their merits rather than having the every other post talk about how much they suck and link to those stupid reviews.

I think Voyager is the worst of the Trek series. But I don't go into the Voyager forum and post in every thread, talking about how horrible it is. (I don't think it's horrible by the way, mostly I see it as wasted potential.) It really seems like a lot of people spend a lot of time talking about movies they hate. Seems pointless to me.

Every PT thread ever:

Re: I love the Star Wars prequels!

Dude, I am a big fan of the original BSG. The new one doesnt even come close IMO. For one, ever notice how "Advanced" the new BSG is supposed to be, yet some of it's characters wear eyeglasses. So these people are capable of interstellar travel but have yet to discover lasik surgery?
Back in the days of the space race, NASA invested a huge amount of money to develop a ballpoint pen that could write in zero G environments.
The Soviets simply used a pencil.

Sometimes its just not worth investing money into something where what you have is perfectly fine already.

Either that or all Colonials are allergic to Retinax.

No, they didn't.

I like this point made:

Lead pencils were used on all Mercury and Gemini space flights and all Russian space flights prior to 1968. Fisher Space Pens are more dependable than lead pencils and cannot create the hazard of a broken piece of lead floating through the gravity-less atmosphere.

Thanks for the link and dispelling the myth.

Some say, the so-called "bad" dialogue has deeper meaning to Anakin's arc:

"I hate sand"-Anakin is burned by volcanic sand

"I can't breathe"-Vader can't breathe

"I hope the kiss does not become a scar"-Vader is all scarred up

"It would destroy us"-echo of ESB line

Given different direction, this really could have been gold.

Thanks for pointing out these points. Very interesting.

Also, a lot of people are down on the waterfall scene, but it does have that interesting bit of dialogue which has Anakin basically sum up the Empire:

PADMÉ: You really don't like politicians, do you?
ANAKIN: I like two or three, but I'm not really sure about
one of them. (smiling) I don't think the system works.
PADMÉ: How would you have it work?
ANAKIN: We need a system where the politicians sit down and
discuss the problem, agree what's in the best interests of
all the people, and then do it.
PADMÉ: That is exactly what we do. The trouble is that
people don't always agree. In fact, they hardly ever do.
ANAKIN: Then they should be made to.
PADMÉ: By whom? Who's going to make them?
ANAKIN: I don't know. Someone.
PADMÉ: You?
ANAKIN: Of course not me.
PADMÉ: But someone.
ANAKIN: Someone wise.
PADMÉ: That sounds an awful lot like a dictatorship to me.
ANAKIN: Well, if it works...

Zoom has a point and you would do well to consider it when choosing your actions, HAL.9000. Regardless of your intent.

Any more comments to PM please.

I'm not malicious, however I am not a push over either. I will defend myself civily on forums and if that means I get banned then I dont belong in the first place. I never start a fight, but I have no problem finishing one.

I'm new here, so only time will tell. So far it's been a good experience. Nice atmosphere here.

Excellent. You ought to have no trouble then:

  • * - keeping your subsequent comments made in the forum on topic,
    * - refraining from any encouragement for anybody else to flame you,
    * - taking to heart the request to make further comments concerning this action to a private message conversion.

There was no evolution of Vader as a character, and quite frankly I found it hard to accept that Vader at the end of Sith was the former Anakin Skywalker. He just came across as Vader from A new Hope.

Although not a movie and AFAIK not even technically considered Canon, James Luceno's "Dark Lord" novel helps show the transformation from Anakin to the fearsome Sith Lord and Jedi hunter that we see in the OT. It's a good read and also deals a little bit with some Jedi survivors (newly created characters) from Order 66 and how they adapt to the loss of the Order. Matthew Stover's novelization of ROTS also helps flesh out some of the reasoning for Anakin's ultimate betrayal of the Jedi Order and fall to the dark side better than what we see in the movie.
