I have a cautious optimism about the finale. For one thing I think the writers have opened too many doors (i.e. Lionel Luthor and Darkseid) and not focused on the primary goal of moving Clark towards being Superman. I am fearful it is going to be a split second and forced issue and not the gradual character development it should have been all season. At this point I just want to see the man fly. The suit would be nice, but for goodness sake just fly already. I have enjoyed the Clark/Lois relationship this season.

^i couldn't agree with you more. I haven't seen a simpler series ducked up mire since that sci-fi abortion that was Flash Gordon a couple years back. But to be honest I don't think Smallville could have turnned out any other way in the end; they really set themselves up to fail from the get go with the freak of the week(s) formula and everybody including Clark obsessed with Lana, while having their little winkwinks at the viewers, but never allowing the character to move forward as he naturally should have over the course of TEN YEARS. They never allowed Clark to evolve into Clark the Reporter, the same with Lois; just one day they were reporters. We could go on and on about it, and let's face it we have (14 pages already and the show is still a day away from airing), but at this point I think most of everybody will be somewhat satisfied with Welling as Superman, flying and suited up for a few minutes, but let's be honest, nothing they do tomorrow will make up for a decade of fart-assing-around.

Well said. Lois pretty much got the job because Grant the Clone Editor (one of SV's horrible storylines that led nowhere) wanted to sleep with her. And then off-camera during the next season, she was suddenly this great reporter taking pictures with the Dalai Lama. Then you have Clark, who never voluntarily ended his relationship with Lana. He always viewed her as his fairy tale princess and that never changed. I still say it hurt his character never to have grown up about that relationship and ended it. And of course, it was TPTB that came up with the "brilliant" idea to give Lana all of Clark's strength and none of his powers.

They did an awful job with Darkseid this season, virtually ignoring him during the second half of the season. They really should have casted an actor for the role instead of the CGI nonsense.

^When it comes to Darkseid, could we have expected any better. Here's a show that introduced Doomsday with a new alter ego, bur instead if doing the smart thing, that which may have made the character compelling, and given us a huge "Holy shit!" moment, they come out a month or two before the start of the series and announce he is Doomsday. I feel lucky that we even got to see Darkseid at all, even as a CGI character.

If anything they should have built up Darkseid like Voldemort. A looming figure that is vey haunting and even taunting Clark, all while corrupting the world.

Good god they could have made this season so epic.

^That would have been awesome... and way beyond the writers on Smallville. Although here's hoping hoping they've been saving up $$$ by playing it safe this year.

I find myself in complete agreement with Deadmeat, Pipes and ObiWan; you guys have basically summed up the major issues that are/were wrong with the show, and nothing that they present in the finale tonight will erase any of that.

It's sad, because as ObiWan said, this season could've been so epic.

I'm not even sure what I'm hoping for out of it tonight.

I'm here again...not that I was ever gone sigh. I have very low expectations for tonight's finale (especially after seeing the Community finale which was absolutely satisfying on all levels!). The only thing that I'm really excited about seeing is Rosey. I don't care about the wedding at all. I know I'm going to be disappointed with how they handle the Darkseid angle and I am expecting to see Super Douche only a short time. I was hoping to have my Alternate Smallville Project finished for you guys as a treat for the finale but alas...no such luck. Chronic pain and other distractions have prevented me from completing it. Maybe one day it will go in the fan fic forum lol.

But that's exactly what they thought they were doing, and still after the fact what they will have believed they had done.

You know it's funny, a few months ago I was hoping for the announcement of a JLA spin-off led by Green Arrow and featuring Impulse and gang. Now I don't even know if I want to see any of the characters again after tomorrow. And with the last ten years and Superman Returns I couldn't be less excited for the future of Superman.

Man, this thread has really become a exorcise your demons and get things off your chest thread, hasn't it?

^^Yep they have done that...once more though execution is a problem. They've not really shown the full scale of Darkseid's influece on the world. The registration act and the movement against heroes was one such plot. Infecting the heroes themselves was another plot.

@Deadmeat...all Smallville threads were for ranting and getting things off our chests lol.

Know what, i'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the episode.... to Hades with trying to nitpick and all that, i'm just gonna have fun and enjoy the last 2 hours of smallville

I saw John Glover on The Good Wife last week and he had short hair and no beard. I wonder what he'll look like in tonight's episode.

Starfleet Academy -- We're not sure why James Kirk is even attending because he doesn't have any actual aspirations for anything other than to pine after Janice Lester while completely ignoring that Christine Chapel is in love with him and the best woman he could possibly pick. Also Khan is in Starfleet and has a love-hate relationship with Kirk (not to mention Khan's dad has a thing for Kirk's mom). And before Kirk graduates from Starfleet, he will have already defeated Harry Mudd, Gary Mitchell, the Doomsday Machine, V'Ger, the whale probe, Kruge, Chang, Soran, a Gorn and the Borg.
And after Kirk's graduation from the academy, he would have spent the next 6 years moping around wondering if he should become an officer in Starfleet. And towards the end of that period, he'd have a Starfleet uniform encased in ice which he'd look at from time to time while Ma-Jel, the computer voice, puts him through a series of tests. Spock and the others will of course already be flying. ...through space in a starship as commissioned officers. And you forgot to mention Carol Marcus. No surprise though. She wasn't part of the established crew. We'd also get visits from Picard and his crew from the future, who also know nothing about her. And in a flash-forward during the finale, she'll have a son named David who she'll tell stories to about the great Captain Kirk. Robau will also be back in the finale with no explanation because his being back needs no explanation.
