That's what I'd like to see. At least one more year to wrap everything up.I expect them to enact the "we could wrap up the Destiny's mission in one season" plan if they do somehow wrangle another season.

I've gotten the impression that the show runners themselves wanted to go in a different direction. It might not have been a Syfy directive.SGU is trying to be serious character drama, written and produced by people who aren't comfortable doing serious character drama, people who would rather be doing action adventures. That's why it's so awful and why it has failed.
ugh, no thanks. I've got 10 seasons worth of SG-1 DVDs for that...plus all of Atlantis.

Which of course shows that that format got 15 seasons of television (and could have got more had they stuck with it instead of wanting to change everything), while SG:U's new and different and gritty etc.. format barely got 2.
The producers decided to end Atlantis as they did not want to produce 2 shows at the same time again, and with the success of the SG1 dvds, thought transferring ATL to dvd movies would be a good move to keep it going.^^ Could be wrong, but I thought that Atlantis was cancelled as MGM couldn't afford to produce both that and Universe?

Where do you get this from? I've never seen a quote where "The producers decided to end Atlantis."

They didn't - SG:A got cancelled; BUT at the same time MGM was pitching a new take on the franchise that SCIFI thought was worth a shot...
That said, SG:A was cancelled and would have been cancelled regardless of whether SG:U went forward or not.
I figured that they liked what cable shows including BSG were doing and wanted to give it a try, but I don't know. Just because most fans were happy with the way Stargate was doesn't necessarily mean that the creators were also satisfied with it. They do seem to get pretty defensive when SGU is criticised, so that could suggest that they're genuinely passionate about the new direction. That's just my own take though. I should look up some interviews to see if there's anything about what motivated the change in direction.I've gotten the impression that the show runners themselves wanted to go in a different direction. It might not have been a Syfy directive.
But is it the direction they genuinely want to go, or just the one they're going because they think it's the popular route which will bring more ratings?

What you fail to mention is that Atlantis, using your beloved format, was cancelled, likely for the same reasons that Universe has been.
Well, they have reasons to feel defensive.
It's one thing, and I suppose annoying enough, to be told as Ron Moore was "we hate the whole direction you've taken our beloved show."
But the Stargate producers are getting that from one group but also the message from some fans that "The direction you're going would be okay, but you suck at it."![]()
I hope they finish off some plotlines (kill off Chloe, at least), but it sounds like they won’t, being cancelled in mid-season.
And the show was getting better, at least to me and others here.
The only good part is this means I have less reason than ever to have cable tv, since I don’t think there’s much left on SyFy to watch (I won’t call it “Skiffy” since the channel was better back then and doesn’t deserve the name anymore).
ETA: Wait! I still like Warehouse 13 and Eureka. But I’m more inclined to believe SyFY will screw with those shows even more until they’re unwatchable.
