Sy Fy knew that too. That's why they flanked SGU with TNG to garner more ratings...but SGU was repelling viewers not attracting them.
Am not suppriesd TPTB and MGM want to keep the franchise going as apart from Bond this is all they have.
If he expects to get them back to work next year, given the cost of starting up a series versus the current low estate of the franchise, then he's talking about some variation of SG:U.
I expect them to enact the "we could wrap up the Destiny's mission in one season" plan if they do somehow wrangle another season.
That would also be an acceptable approach.
They only pay a license fee, which isn't much compared to the shows budget. Syfy pays a much larger amount.
First I've heard. I know Sky One funded BSG, but to my knowledge they have never funded any Stargate series. In fact, aside from ariring the shows, I didn't think they had any real involvement in any of them.
If they do go the route of a new series, I hope they don't do the above-mentioned. The biggest problem I had with Atlantis was that it was desperately trying to be SG1 with different people, and it wasn't all that good at it. If they do a new series, I would hope that they try to do something unique. They can certainly go for something lighter than SGU, but they need to try and do it a "new" way. With that said, I would like to hope that the first priority would be at least giving SGU some closure.
( I am not saying that the show doesnt any merits but..)
Obviously it comes down to the execution. I never watched Andromeda, but I'm talking about a non-sucky execution of the premise. Anything can suck if it's not done correctly.

The Andromeda concept was fine; I was very jazzed to see that series in the months leading up to it. Then I saw the premiere episode. Kevin Sorbo and the high school drama club production values quickly killed my interest. If someone wants to take another crack at the idea and do it a lot better, I'll give it another try.
This is a bit off topic, but has there been any interest from them in co-funding Blood & Chrome? Or did they somehow feel burned by BSG and/or think it was an okay investment but not worth repeating?
I think Joe's comments suggest that a new series is the last thing on their minds right now.
ugh, no thanks. I've got 10 seasons worth of SG-1 DVDs for that...plus all of Atlantis.
Finally a Stargate worthy of being viewed by serious sci-fi fans. I know most Stargate fans like corny one liners and gunfire and mediocre bad guys and stories that were done on Star Trek years ago and done better, but finally the producers created something mature and worthwhile that actually dug into the human condition and showcased how average people deal with the difficulty of survival in deep space and the wonders and dangers that come that unknown, rather then "we found yet another all powerful artifact that we can poke at till we figure out how to stop an army of lame alien soldiers with it" formula SG1 and Atlantis limped around on over and over and over. SG1 and Atlantis looked good production wise but the show were ultimately devoid of anything meaty and dramatic like BSG, Firefly or DS9. I've maintained a longtime dislike of all things Stargate even though I've given then all several episodes to win me over. I finally saw as a serious sci-fi fan what I want to see in Stargate show and now it looks like they'll be no more. Well despite that news, I'd like to thank the producers and writers for making a show I've really enjoyed. I really hope you don't back pedal and make mediorce TV that caters to the low common denominator again. And if any other former Gate haters read this, watch Universe, it'll win you over.

You can have meaty drama all you want, but if it's not fun to watch, then it doesn't really do you any good.
I'm sorry, but how can people claim that SGU is some sort of underappreciated masterpiece? Just because it lacked gunfights and action scenes on a weekly basis does not automatically make it deep and profound. I'm not saying I need action and gunfights and splosions to enjoy a show, but damn, Stargate sure is boring without them.
SG-1 and Atlantis may have been simple action adventures, and maybe it's not entirely wrong to call them "campy" but you know what? They were written and produced by people comfortable doing simple "campy" action adventures and that's why they shine. SGU is trying to be serious character drama, written and produced by people who aren't comfortable doing serious character drama, people who would rather be doing action adventures. That's why it's so awful and why it has failed.
