StarCraft 2?

Wasn't really into the first game, was more into WC2 around that time as a mate and I use to play over dial up and he was really into making custom maps, which added a lot.

I went through a phase when I tried making a bunch of maps in StarEdit. Came up with some fairly good ones, and had some fun with scripting the triggered events. Unfortunately I never quite figured out how to make the AI work as well as it does in the normal game.

Just finished mission 9 and so far i'm enjoying the game.

It's not the best thing evah but nonetheless a very cool game and the story itself is what drives the game.

I can understand the critics saying that the game doesn't introduce anything new, that basebuilding is a thing of the past etc but then the designers made it that way intentionally.

Blizzard has made it public that they could have produced an orgy for the eyes that would strain the best commercially available computers but then only a small group of people could enjoy it to the fullest and they wanted a broad audience so in the graphics department we get nothing groundbreaking. Like it or not.. it's like that.

Basebuilding.. another point of critique. While Blizzard games have mastered that aspect Relic has popularized the new capture point mechanic which forces an active playstyle if you don't want to fall back in the ressource race.
I believe this comes down to preference and taste.. some like the aspect of ressouce management while other like to venture out as soon as possible.

I'm not a multiplayer type anymore (middle 30s, job etc so little time to "train" and get to know the game inside out) but i guess that's where the real quality of the game becomes apparent. Blizzard is famous for it's good balance (well.. after the game is released and some time has passed so they can finetune it) and i believe with all the new maps and units/interactions it will once again dominate the MP society.

All considered it is a very good game.. personally too little groundbreaking stuff but tiny and good updates to a working system.

I'll be definitely playing all 3 games when they are released just to see the story unfold.

Last point.. way too little prerendered cutscenes. The ingame cutscenes are ok but i want those damn awesome minimovies more often!

i finally beat the game this weekend. it was a fun ride. i'll probably play some of the challenge maps and maybe mess around with the map builder stuff... maybe...

i'll probably avoid competitive mp... but man i want that Nova portrait...

Jesus. Good luck with that.

Although I suppose with their system, if you play 2000 games, you should win 1000 of them. That's still a lot of games. :p

Well, there are people in Diamond who have probably already played the thousand games.

It's generally inadvisable to post three times in a row. Friendly reminder. ;)

Thanks to Rii, I was able to get some time in with the game (although it took forever and a day to download; I didn't actually get gametime until day 11 of my 14-day guest pass), and I have to say that I was pretty impressed with how well the engine scaled down for my laptop. How the fuck do people have enough time to play so many matches? :wtf:

^
I'm curious - I know that's to prevent spam, but how do you reply to people who are responding to you if you don't post again?

Almost done with the single player... At least I think I'm on the last level, it's called "All In" and looking at the achievements it certainly seems like there's nothing after it.

I think I picked poor research upgrades, I'm trying to get the Hard achievement for all in, winning on Hard with using the special attack only once... pretty tough.

In multiplayer I'm still milking the practice league. It's good fun but I'm nowhere near the RTS shape I was in for War3. Doesn't help that I have to learn all these races where people are already mostly familiar from the first Starcraft.

Between this game and MW2 online I'm pretty sure I need a new mouse. The $10, 10 year old OEM logitech is starting to show it's age ever so slightly :)

I played a game where I got cannon rushed :( The sad thing is that I saw the probe going into my base. But it was a 2v2. Kept my head cool with my friend we turtled and macro'ed up.

Then I dropped some heroic dark templars and wiped out their base!!! F yeah!

Being a teenager or using every spare minute to play does the trick ;)

Just finished the story campaign.. awesome last few missions and a wonderfully emotional ending to the 1st third of the new Starcraft.

At times a bit too much cliché but it's a videogame and not Shakespeare. I was very much entertained, a bit disappointed that Blizzard didn't reinvent the genre like Relic did with their capture the ressource point mechanic but it is a very solid game with few if any glitches.

Being mid30s i'm staying the hell away from multiplayer.. don't need my ass handed to me by a 15 year old teenager who isn't even able to grow facial hair :p;)

Well, they say the placement matches are supposed to put you in a pool with like-ability players. I kind of wish I could just voluntarily put myself in the Copper league and be done with it though.

Well, I just finished the campaign. The gameplay was fantastic and each mission was incredibly varied, but the story was very disappointing. You have 26 missions, but with the exception of the Invasion of Char nothing important happens. There is just so much filler. I really wish Blizzard had kept the original format of 8-10 missions per race instead of creating 1 huge campaign. Hopefully Blizzard does a better job with Heart of the Swarm.
